the katha behind katha paryumbol..the story behind the storuy mov
by JOTISH NAIR on Feb 11, 2009 03:07 PM

There's an interesting story behind the katha parayumbol being remade into Kuzelan in Tamil. Kathaparayumbol is nothing new but it did well in box office in kerala, The story is as follows..
the original story of katha paryumbol(KP) was by a unknown person who few years back rendered the story to Sreenivasan( who produced and acted the protaganist's role in the film).
Sreenivasan dismissed the guys story as useless and sent him back. years later srinivasan picked up the story frm his memory and wrote screen play for that and then produced it. when the film went on to become hit..the youth who had told this story to sreenivasan came back and thretened to sue sreenivasan. sreenivasan compromised for a Rs.50 lakh compensation. Sreenivasan didn't have that kind of money..so he went to his old time friend and classmate at adayar film institute..Rajnikanth...Rajni saar bought the rights for 50 lacs and saved sreenivasan. that was how kuzelan was made... now priyadarshan(a gud friend of sreenivasan) is remade it to billu barber. Irfan khan is a great actor and it will be a great break for him. Lara dutta will have a turning point in her career with this meaty role of barbers wife.

Guys guys guys , what are u arguing about . Some say srk sucks , srk rules , etc etc . Come on man . Both these dudes rock in their own genres of the industry . they are the best in their own fields . I mean in their own kind of movies . You cant expect Irfan Khan to do a OSO or a DDLJ right niether can you expect SRK to do a Maqbool . So therefore in short , Both of them rock !!! Lets leave it to that . Yeah SRK has had some dud movies , but come on man , cut the guy some slack. No one slandered him when he gave DDLJ or Chakde or Kuch kuch etc to name a few right . They both rock and BOLLYWOOD Rules ... Right . Let me know what you guys thing ok :)

Average films... and hypocratic fans...
by Kakes on Apr 13, 2008 10:56 PM  | Hide replies

Now when i see some malayalam films are being remade to Hindi... i can only say one thing... it's really late.. There was a time when Malayalam produced some of the finest movies in the country... with able film makers like Padmarajan, Bharathan, Aravindan... Lenin Rajeandran... But now it has become a torture to watch malayalam films off late.. The commercial hits like "Katha Parayumbol" is just a pale reflection of glorious past of Malayalam Silver screen... It's just an average film cleverly marketed by two of the most intelligent actors Sreenivasan and Mukesh... Apart from Kaiyoppu and Ore Kadal, there was hardly a watchable in has released in Malayalam last year (oops i have omitted Arabikatha from the list)... And films like Paruthiveeran, Anjathe (from Tamil) or Ek Challis ki local or manorama six feet under are much better watch than most of the mainline malayalam movies... Even being a Malayalee, i can't agree with these hypocrites who still praising malayalam movies in these blogs... Katha Parayumbol is just an average film... thats all...

you are bang on target. Malayalam film standards have suffered a lot after the death of bharathan and padmarajan. Even the likes of Lenin Rajendran have no takers. The bane of malayalam films now is the same as we see in politics and also in bollywood, i.e.
"INBREEDING." These fellows who came up on their own with sheer talent like mohan lal, mammoty, sreenivasan, etc have unfortunately ganged up together to stagnate the industry and won't allow any fresh talent to come in. But i hope it is just a matter of time before a surge of talent will wash away these drain chokers.

what makes him star
by Postwala on Apr 13, 2008 08:40 PM

Lets think, why it doesnt happen to Aamir or hrithik. Probably they make more sensible movies that these nerdies and losers like.

I understand Sharukh tried working in different cinema like Asoka, PDH2, Maya Memsahib but the sincerity in script was missing. Frankly I dont care about stars other than the time I watch. However they are true winners and story to learn from.
