I have never been to darjeeling..i feel one doesnt have to go to darjeeling to understand these aspects of indian life.... you can find this state of mind in every indian atleast..this very same thing exist in each section of our/my society.. i have seen managers crushing/abusing their subordinates just because they are managers....and i have seen a peon trashing a begger..this shows the state of mind of a human who longs flexing his power.....and that echos in our society..so no wonder the bengali babus would like to have their own way of ruling the unorganised gorkha population....if people who are oppressed in india get a rallying point (here tamang is an accepted talent) they put it in front to demand dignity for every one....this they find it as the way to vent their anger and demand dignity for their life..i would like to say that this is my view point and u may or may not agree..in case u dont agree..reply back.

People like Nirad C Chaudhari and the commies of CPI are an example of the Bengali anti-India mindset. They are not just anti-nepali they are anti everything. They just romanticise pain and perversion in their art and literature which is palatable to the India-hating west. Shame!

Nirad chaudhuri was promoted by BJP in the end. Advani paid an emotional visit to him in gratitude for running down communities in India (praise from a Sanghi! rather an insult, I would say)

Riots stopped an ambulance
by BR on Sep 29, 2007 02:55 AM  | Hide replies

Now that is not right. Fans can protest, but stop an ambulance? That is so wrong. That ambulance could be carrying a patient who could have been hanging between life and death. Siliguri hospital is one of the main ones in all North Bengal.

was there reason enough to report 'abuse' for my comment below? Please donot be so narrow-minded

Having lived in Darjeeling for over a year, I have observed the way Nepali people are treated at the hands of Bengalis. The regular protests and the inhuman conditions in the tea-plantations in siliguri-darjeeling area are a testimony for this. The Nepali people in Darjeeling have been forced to adopt the kind of Gorkhaland nationalism they emulate, as this is the only way of living a life of dignity and safety for them. I donot advocate the use of local land armies by a few power-crazy dictator type individuals who would want to enforce a sort of regional preference, but the conditions overruling darjeeling makes it imperative for people to choose an atonomous form of rule.
Bengali babus, as they are supposed to be called, have single-handedly caused strife and discord in east and north-eastern states; this I state as a Non-Bengali, Non-NE indian.
The treatment meted out to the people of North-east over and over again in the past many decades has paved way for the never ending unrest.
There cannot be any 'ethnic-cleansing' or forced-indianisation as a method to merge the people of NE into Indian mainstream.
You cannot walk upto some tribal woman and tell her that her dress is immodest and vulgar and she should instead drape herself in a white cotton saree as a part of integrating with our great Indian union.
Conversely, people of NE must not seclude themselves and forever be trapped in a mesh of suspicion cynicism and alienation.

RJ shuold lose his job
by BR on Sep 29, 2007 02:44 AM

RJ should lose his job for a few days so he can do chowkidaari of s shop for a few days, as community service.

Who the heck RJ thinks he is, an authority on Nepalis?
Ans guys, instead of tearing each other on this board, protest should be , like what the lads in Siliguri did, bring RJ to face the music. Freedom of speech does not mean he use any medium to crack ugly jokes. He should crack jokes only when the jokes are asked for. eg:- Zee laughter Challenge.

And some posters are just talking nonsense continuosly about Hindu-this, and Muslim-that, those ones should also shut their trap up. They can do nothing positive, so better for them to sit home and watch harmless cricket.

I would also add that even though I donot follow these talent competitions/ reality shows on TV much, I feel the fact that the finalists of Indian Idol being from strife torn areas of East should be a reason enough for us to celebrate a sort of socio-cultural coming-of-age of the NE integration into Indian mainstream.
I hope this event, even widely criticised as a commercial stunt, should remove pre-concieved notions about our brethren from far eastern states and help them gain much-deserved dignity and respect in the hearts of other Indians.
