No doubt. His movies are considered to be text book classics in film making. He was one of the first one to extensively use 100mm, 75mm telephoto lens for close up shot which blurred the background and capturing the expression of the actor in sharp focus. This technique came to be known as --Guru Dutt Shot-- in the film industry.
Unfortunately this dimwit writer chose to highlight is caste rather than his achievement. Apparently rediff hires cheap journalists and if you need to seek information do not refer to rediff. Here you will find article on Best body in Bollywood or racist article like above. I would suggest google search engine or Wikepedia.

Feel like I am in circa 1870 india. Surely this article is written by a marriage broker. This reminds me of an IT consultant who refused to go abroad since his category of brahmin did not allow him to eat food cooked outside (or food handled by lower caste). Finally joind a govt. computer dept. . The impresion I had is that India is past all this and really global. But what is this Religion-Caste-SubCaste-SubSubCaste....... not that I care just an observation.

Who is this Rediff contributor? Saraswat Brahmins? Saraswat Brahmins ki Jai Ho. Anyone in Maharashtra will tell how snooty the Saraswats are, how they look upon with disdain upon non-Saraswat passers-by or neighbors in their neighborhood.

Is this Rediff contributor a BJP? What an ugly article in this day and age. Shame on him. On the other hand, hope his children marry only Saraswats to proginate only Saraswats.

Hey Man,
What's your problem...why U see bad things in everything...get a life, seems like U don't like brahmins...in older glorious Bengal almost all the famous writers were Brahmins. Why bring BJP into this...seems to me U must be a Retard (Commie) or Nehru/Gandhi Family's foot licking dog. Everybody loves the Romantic Hero Guru Dutt and the songs he had in his movies.

BR,
I fail to understand what the specific connection is between Maharashtra and Konkani Saraswats who hail from Mangalore and use Kannada script to write Konkani?! Not everything is connected to MH- and MH is hardly the perfect example of communal harmony. So pray, what is connection you seek to derive? Or else is it just your personal allergy to anything south of Vindhyas?

And who cares about Maharshtra Saraswats or Konkani ones. But to have a piece online about the virtues and illustrious companies of "SARASWATS".
