atleast.. they improve ur own life substantially..
by on Sep 20, 2007 01:54 AM

well.. from a personal viewpoint.. any singer who makes it into the top rung of any big show.. may not become a big playback singer n stuff.. but his own life changes.. cause a million people recognise him after the show.. unlike before.. n that's enough to keep his career moving.. until he gets his break...
it's unthinkable to compare the same singer before n after a reality show.. cause he goes from being a nobody to somebody in a few months.. which probably never happens to countless of talented strugglers all their life..
so there's no question that it fast forwards ur dreams n lifes a lot.... n the rest is upto the singer how he or she makes best use of that lucky break in life...

the programmes never actually promote good singers
by ashok pai on Sep 20, 2007 01:14 AM  | Hide replies

the programes never promote good singers, they are after reality shows and sms vote revenue. they are not bothered about the genuine singers. even if they find them, once they are done with the programme, they are buried with contracts and heavily one sided. so why are these assheads farting about good singers not being available ?

Well
a) The filtering has to be done with emphasis on 'music' and music talent alone. It is done well enough only in VOI and SaReGaMaPa. Indian IDOL is only Sony's profit and the talent good enough for music videos alone with Amit Paul being an exception, I will be happy if public likes his voice, its very good.

b) The talented singers need guidance and only SaRe... does it, hence you have found only they have (albeit a few) made it big. The quality of singing can be rated as (point out of 10)

8.5-9 in SaReGaMaPa...
7-7.5 in VOI
4-5 in Indian IDOL

c) The public should like the voice - Which you never know until they get a chance?

So, it%u2019s not very easy. Although there are 'many' talent shows, only one is really up to it, and a I can vouch for the talent I have seen in this years SaReGaMaPa, its awesome. BUT we do not know how much the public will like it when it means business?

VERDICT - Do not expect anything from Indian Idol, VOI etc. VOI may spring a surprise, though. SaReGaMaPa format is exceptional, in the next 4-5 years, I foresee some 4-5 talented singers coming out from there.

But chances for giving a successful playback singer for even Sa-re-Ga-Ma is lesser now. This is because of public voting system.
Remember the same talent show has given likes of Sunidhi Chauhan & Shreya Ghosal in the past.

I feel that even if it is public voting, music directors who hear the same will pick up singers based on pure singing talent. Saberi who is out of SaReGaMaPa challenge has already been signe dby Vishal-Shekar and similarly Mouli and others. So, even if the public voting does create havoc, the people in music field know who can be their singer. But anyways, i feel everybody remaining in SaReGaMaPa now has a bright future. VOI also has some gr8 singers like Abhaas, Harshith who can make it big; and also Amit Paul of Indian Idol. Hope he gets into the limelight unlike previous Indian idols.
