Speed Review

I dont understand y do these critics have to completely signoff a film just becoz its copied scene to scene from a hollywood movie. Its not something i agree to as well. Coz cinema is a creative field. But hold on. How many people in India actually watch hollywood flicks, so if someone remakes that in Hindi then whats the harm in it. Even this years Oscar winner Departed was a copy of a HongKong based movie. But still it managed to win the OSCAR. Yes from a creative stand point and openly saying "THIS IS A NEW STORY AND NOT COPIED" is wrong. The directors/producers should accept the fact that the movie is inspired from another movie.
But other than this, i dont see any wrong in coping from a wonderful movie and having more people watch it.

If you made a movie and someone ripped it off without paying you, would you be happy? There is nothing wrong in remaking a movie but you must pay for copyright. If an English novel was translated into Hindi and the writer claimed it as original it would create a big fuss. Isn't a movie being copied the same?

Did you write this using original Windows? :-)) Did you pay MS?
Anyway, the point is: if the bhatts didn't pay the makers of Cellular, why is this reviewer unhappy?

Talk sense my friend, if at all, the **h**es who run around with a tag of `creatives` around their neck admit that they have copied a hollywood film then, whoosh, they will be slapped with a suit for atleast 10 million damages and that would put paid for the next 10 movies that the Bawejas and Bhatts could have copied for us.

D morgan got 50 paisa when he asked for 5 Rs for writing good review
by thp on Oct 19, 2007 06:41 PM

All film writers asks 5 Rs to write good review about any damn hindi movie. If they can not get then they will have to write 'BAD' reviews of that movie.

u like gays like srk n stuff... acting is a serious job and mohanlal is one of the best actors in the world itself... just go n watch paradesi or vanaprastham or kireedom or bharatam u'll know what talents are made of !!! and cinema is a visual medium language has no barrier ... do not underestimate the power of malayalam cinema ... it's mostly soaked with realism. as there are limited audiences for a malayalam movie they might not be technically brilliant as their couterparts, but if u take any hindi movie.. most of the technicians would be frm south india.

Why the hell do u have to make everything a north-south issue, shows how narrow-minded and inferior u feel compared to northies, which is the reason behind ur desperation to come up with stuff to prove ur better, if u were really better u need not shout from the top of the roof like u do. Chill guys, ders life beyond this north-south fighting which u love to do

I don't know why this north south stuff is coming up. I have watched thousands of south indian movies and have found the general acting and technology better than others. BUT... there is a problem. How do you expect non-malayalam speaking people to watch malayalam films withuot providing subtitles? The films should first be made available for others to watch - only then can you really compare their remakes.

Movie reviewers, please review your language
by Bijoy K on Oct 19, 2007 05:23 PM  | Hide replies

Movie reviewers, please review your language

Movie reviews have got a definite charm attached to it, I am not denying that fact. Earlier, I used to read a review to decide on watching a movie. But, now I don't trust these so-called critics any more.

Whenever you read a review, please also read the unseen 'disclaimer' note attached to it also. Meaning, please don't carry yourself along with the opinion of the critic against your will. He is not God. Since it is his review, he has got the freedom to write whatever he wish, depending on his movie quotient level. He wouldn't care whether you approve his review or not.

Similar way, the reader should not care about these reviews and never consider them as a yardstick to measure up a review. If you really feel like watching a movie, go and watch it. Those who can't beat the temptation of scanning through the reviews, please deliberately avoid reading them before watching the movie in question. That is what I do.

It would be better even the critic keep in mind the primary rule of journalism - never generalise information that is going in print. Please present both the sides of the issue. I am not asking them to practice it every time they write a review, it is impossible. But, there are occasions when you can keep the rule in mind. I have often seen critics blankly asking the reader to avoid the movie. He has no right to say that. This particular line from the Rediff movie review on Speed shocked me. The critic winds up

I totally agree with you Bijoy, the reviewer has no right to say to avoid the movie. He can just tell his views on the story, screenplay, direction, cinematography and acting. HE needs to tell the readers indiretcly based on these factors whether a movie is watchable or not. These kind of stupid reviews needs to stopped by rediff. Its happening every week, last week Mr Raja Sen had used the same words for Bhool Bhulliya, but look where the movie has gone, it got one of the best openings and its going towards being declared as a hit. Saying this, I am not saying that Speed is a good movie, but definitely it would have some ve points. Please give both sides of the story, else rediff would loose its readers day by day. And finally it would be just a gossip site, asking readers to vote Whom does Shahrukh resemble? Worst Dressers in bollywood? Are Shahid-Kareen together? the list does not end.
