Liked all the central characters. Everyone gave a fine performance, and Priyadarshan used a lot of restraint in many scenes to maintain the fiction. I found Shiny being criticised. But he is an actor who gives a more natural performance, it was a good shot when he bent forward to hug his uncle. He looked and walked just like a king in the climax scene.
Akshay as he has been recently, was quite fabulous. Somehow he managed to look so handsome. And the song 'Aami je tomaar' was fabulous. I think Shreya Ghoshal is going to be become an icon, an icon that Anuradha Poudwal was almost to be.
the theme of MANICHITRATHAZHU is not just amazing, its a maze, when u uncover it. over and above the scientific/ tanstric parts of the movie and explanations given is an unsaid story (as said by the writr, madhu muttom, in an interview) . there are hints of an illicit fantasy or a relationship. thats true. if u hv watched the malayalam version, the husband (nakulan) is hinted in one scene, as someone who's hesitant to sexual acts /impotent. when the wife calls him ot bed he (is working) and says ' u sleep. i have work' and the lady says ' pl call me when u are coming to bed'....its interpreted that the wife was not completely satisfied and she (in the trance , as the dual persona) fanstasises about the dancer mahadevan.the characterisation of mahadevan as a handsome man also belies this. now this angle /cue is there ONLY in malayalam. and thats the beauty of the movie.
Dear friends, manichitrarthazhu is so loved by us mallus because it is a one of a kind movie....with real life situations, real life comedy , back ground songs, highly effective and perfect emoting(not overacting to express emotions). Emotions are to come naturally not to be depicted expressively or explicitly...this is what cinema is all about.and please understand, the climax scenes are not meant to be scary. The aim is to convey the emotions of a Pscycic. It is the confusion ,turmoil, revenge, anger, fear in the mind of the character that is diplayed so effeciently and perfectly be shobana. I agree with a lot of our friends who have said that jothika and soundarya were scarier. Yes they were scarier because they could not portray the emotions as perfectly as Shobana. they could only show one emotion , terror on thier face .and that too only with light effects.and this was not the essence of the movie. scaring is soemthing lots of movies come up with. that made chandramukhi and the others good movies. And the difference is what exactly makes manichithrathazhu a one of a kind movie that cannot be replicated...and mind you it is for mature cinema goers where cinema is a medium of expression and not just entertainment. and regarding the dance sequence..... did any of you notice that the first part of the song portrays a non-dancer by character (Ganga/avni etc)dancing. So the steps are not of a professional dancer. only in the imaginative scenes when nagavalli/ manjulika dances

Continued from above: only in the imaginative scenes when nagavalli/ manjulika dances is the dance shown as a profeesional one. Can anyone depict this diefference between a non-dancer and a professional dancer as perfectly as Shoabana has done. im sure the cine-goers of the other langauges did'nt even notice the difference. All this and more endears the movie to us mallus a lot. thats why we have been fighting for the movie tooth and nail to establish the fact that manichitrathazhu is the best

thats true but shobna chandrakumar is par ahead from others she is dancer too by profession thats why she did it so well but this is a noticeable thing such that first part goes in imagination not a professional dance sequence which both the actresses have shown according to the role's demand
for those unluucky indians who've had to satisfy yourselves with bhol bhuliya, apthamithra and chandramukhi...pls long on to u tube and search for manichithrathazhu. you can get to see some of the main scenes towards the end of the movie.and mind you...the scenes are not about scaring you.watch the emotions of a Psychic.....
Given below is a profile of Padma Shri Shobana ,the dancer. Now you'll can deciede whether jothoika, or soundarya,or vidhya balan or anybody else for that matter could have even have come close to her performance in the dance sequence in manichitrathazhu . Two time national award winner for best actress ...so guess i dont have to repeat the sentence to prove she remains unbeaten for her acting skills in the original
In 2006 January, the Indian government honored Shobana with Padma Shri title for her significant contributions to cinema and Bharatanatyam.
