Here is a opinion...
by Nav on Oct 04, 2007 12:53 AM

Here is a opinion / Suggestion for you.. don't write such long and boring articles. Critics are people who never get enough or never get satisfied. They always have to find fault. According to them there are only 1-2 good movies a year.. They almost never review in the correct perspective. It is better to read a common man's perspective than a critic's perspective cos the common man has better common sense.. If you cannot take one opinion from Farah Khan in a sporting sense then how do you expect her to accept your trash in a more polite way?

Are film critics...?
by Bipin Musale on Oct 03, 2007 10:22 PM

Cinema is very sophisticated art and one has to be connoisseur in several fields in order to be able to appreciate it fully. Thus film critic's is very responsible job and it is too much to expect (or accept) that all of the film critics fit the bill.

Retards they are!
by Raja Bhattacharya on Oct 03, 2007 10:11 PM  | Hide replies

Critics, for the most part, are useless retards. Those who aren't capable of anything else, take to writing! Armchair critics are the bane of the world. If they knew anything better, they would be doing that, rather than working as small time critics and sitting in judgment against somebody else's work. It's like a pack of dogs barking, while the elephant walks on!

Someone please enlighten people that "Retards" is mean and disgusting - not to the person whom you address - but to you and the community as general.

"Retard" means you perceive that someone who is mentally challenged (note I did not use the word retarded) as a fault of the person who has falied to receive the gift of nature - a healthy brain. It is mean, disgusting and very demeaning. It displays pride in the suffering and shortcoming of others.

Please bloggers, do not use this word. Farah Khan and Karan Johar - are examples of just that - spolied brats with scant regard for other's acehievements and work accept those who tow their line.

Need And Expectations
by chhatrapal on Oct 03, 2007 09:58 PM  | Hide replies

Critics exist because people need them. And that%u2019s why newspapers and news sites keep them on pay roll.
From point of viewer, why I need critics?
1. India is in transformational phase and so are our industries. Coke made in our country is still substandard compared to global. And it is also true about Media. Just observe Media from News channels to Movies. Do you think they satisfy our needs? If yes how much. Here I am not comparing with US. Just imagine what kind movies or media you would love to watch. Is it there? Of course it is, but then what percent? Critic is making me aware about certain bad products so I can save my money and time.

2. If I have seen certain English films, I don%u2019t need to watch it again with Hindi songs. Such experiences are unique.

What I want from GOOD critic?
1.See IMDB Film reviews, they are certain ethics, If you elaborating plotline or specific incidents, or key plot point story. They put tag %u201CSPOILERS HEREIN%u201D. And I expect this from critic. I need to know how good or bad film is, whether it is remake, how good camera work, how good is acting, how my favorite artist fared. I DON%u2019T NEED DETAILED STORY OR PLOTLINE. Tagline and/or Punch line is ok. But not whole story
2.Adaptations based on novel are common phenomenon, Akira Kurosawa, one of the greatest filmmaker, used Shakespeare%u2019s work as foundation. And always referred it, at the very start. Adaptations are one thing and Lift off is another. I want critic to let me know about ADAPTATION/LIFT O

3.      I see good, but offbeat films underrated and commercial hits, but otherwise Remakes/lift off%u2019s overrated
4.      Why not put CRITERIA. Say Out of 100 percent, Good Story 30 percent, Direction 25, and Techinical Side 10%, Acting 25%, Music 10%.AND MINUS 30 PERCENT OF COPY/LIFTOFFS/DVD COPY. Five Star System is not good scale; there will be bound to be biased and manipulations. You should at least have 10 point scale.

The real problem is Education and Common Sense
by Sunit Kumar on Oct 03, 2007 09:53 PM

The fact of the matter is getting a PHD doesnt make a person all intelligent its the knowledge itself. In Bollywood there is a complete absence of knowledge and common sense. There are hungry technicians holding lights over fat actors having a Banquet !!! You cant get a better WORST situation than this !!

Really well written, and don't worry about the "real criticism" (see message below). Yours is one of the better written articles on rediff and i read through the whole thing with interest. Kudos.

Sorry last message was cut off
anywayz here's some real criticism,

The play was the thing a desperate, unbelievable, dramatically inert bit of third-degree embarrassment; secondhand agitprop cliché that would have shamed a drama-GCSE improv class. Not a single word or emotion or reaction was honest or believable or real. Again, I am speechless with admiration for the Tristram who has been paid money, fed lunch and given a chair that goes up and down and has such insouciant confidence in the idiocy of his audience that he allowed this to be broadcast. And not just cast, but cast with good actors who had agents who suffered the same effortless belief and said: Do it. Who cares It%u2019s cash. Finally, and most awe-inspiringly, that someone sat down at a keyboard, tapped away and made The Dinner Party a crippling, dribbling, mewling homunculus of plagiarism. And, having done it, they didn't turn white and book themselves into an ashram. They said: This is cool. I'll show it to the grown-ups, and pressed Send. The next time this writer sees his or her name in print, I abjectly pray its under Employee of the month at Burger King.

Some more grammatical errors (oh, I love to do this to the snoots):

1. to see which star family is flying off where, and for _why_?
2. what 'family values' _is_ all about
3. I was much _taken_ by Shah Rukh Khan's (taken in, perhaps?)

That's just the first 10% of the article, and I am already feeling lazy. And I'm not even counting the dozens of places where there are no commas.

Incidentally, Raja Sen is hated because he never gets it right in telling people whether _they_ will like the movie. Who cares what Raja Sen's sensibilities tell him? We pay rediff everytime we click on a page (I'm talking the CPMs you get because of my effort and time), and we want some reliable advice for that from someone who's already done what we are planning to do (watch a film).

Excellent comment dude...

Film critics like all of us are paid to a job, not explore thier sensibilities! As for "retards" if the show fits, wear it!
