Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his films
by G on Nov 17, 2007 07:54 PM

Even when I saw the promos of sawariya I thought Sanjay Leela Bhansali has lost it. For a long time he has been living on the edge. Hum Dil De chuke Sanam was a well made movie - but oh SO regressive. Devdas was a piece of crap - his 'reinterpretation' totally ruined the story and he seems to think Zamindar Bengalis had punju tastes, live in tasteless mansions and go about saying 'eesshh' and 'ori baba'. I thought that movie would flop but he was saved. Then came Black and i was really surprised that this man is capable of a movie like that - but then remember he had great sets in that movie and he had the great amitabh bachhan himself to back him up. Now he seems to have indulged in this vaonglorious attempt to reinterpret Dostovesky of all people. Why something so difficult? Why not someone easier like Shaw or Wilde? bcos I think he has impressed himself by producing author hows name half the people will have trouble pronouncing and the other half will have trouble associating with.
This doesnt take away from Omung Kumar who has really made stupendous sets - this man is geneuinely creative. And it's a pity that there is no accompanying book which I could buy to keep looking at the sets again and again. The new actors deserved better - but then, to be really mean, looking at their faces I dont know how far they will go.
Why blame the reviwer - blame the director.

Anil kapoor is great actor ,Rishi kapoor is great and their kids are great too, but i think they should produce some big banner film to remain in business like Rakesh roshan does for Hritik otherwise those Khans are growing fast .
goodluck Kapoors.

"There is no chemistry between Bhansali's lead actors -- Ranbir and Sonam" this review
"The duo share an exquisite screen chemistry" other review of saawariya on rediff
The two review of rediff goes just in the posite direction till they almost reach each other while giving the stars for the movie.

No Rani was not bad
by abhishek on Nov 14, 2007 07:17 PM

No Rani as not bad, yes, that's how I want to begin this message. Rani was the saving grace of ..."how many dialougues" movie. What was Sanjay thinking when he casted Ranbir as I believe the role was so written for Salman 9 few years ago) and then Shahid (now). Thanks to Rani there was some colour in the movie, and please I don't think she has gone over-the-top at all. She did better than Kareena in Chameli.

simple, apple and apple are compared, those compare apple and banana, cant say anything about them.
Saawaria is a movie I enjoyed watching it, no regret. I film, a story, a masterpiece on its own. I will collect it. OSO, ok, just another movie.

There is more to a ctitic than criticizing....
by S S on Nov 14, 2007 03:01 AM  | Hide replies

I am not a big fan of Bhansali and his work. But I have to say that Saawariya rocks.

The reviews on this site reminf me of the Koffee with karan episode where 4 directors were invited and they clearly said what they felt about 'today's' critics.

First learn what cinema and being a critic is all about. Its not about finding the choicest of ways to insult a film.

Probably quality cinema truly will die when left in hands of people like you to analyse.

Have a conscience. Promote good cinema.

Even if you were paid give OSO a 5 but atleast give Saawariya a 4 ... it truly deserves that.

well, just because you think it was good cinema, it does not make it so. If you have the right to your opinion, why doesn't the critic? I saw Saawariya and couldn't find a redeeming feature in it.

Sukanya verma- you and rediff need a wake up call
by monsoonair on Nov 14, 2007 01:08 AM

Way to go, do all it takes to take down a good film -a different film, just to play politics

The reviewers need to be reviewed! Raja Sen et al -You guys have NO clue what makes a good movie..Go read Baradwaj rangan's review you jokers , to see how a movie is reviewed!

You guys have lost ALL credibility with the public with your shameless attempts to discredit a beautiful movie like saawariya..

Kya Bhansali se koi dushmani thi, that you have taken it out on the movie?

Ki Farah Khan ne tumko khilaya pilaya hai?
tum sab bike hue ho

your review too is as substantial as the "fake eye-lashes" Rani wears.
Were three reviews critising the film not enough. Is it not already "dead and buried" that you now feel you have to "drive in the last nail".
Such in your face bias I have yet to come across! This site has a real problem with Rani these days. It never has a good word to say about her. What a spiteful site.

Something Sensible

One thing is for sure that it is this brainless media that decides what's gud n wat's not so gud for us. Who the hell are these people to pass the verdict about a movie being a blockbuster or disaster on the first day of its release...?? These people give biased reviews and who knows such reviewers can be manipulated also. What is the credibility of these so called reviewers...??

I saw Sawariya yesterday as I was forced as my bro in law had booked the ticket thinking that it would be good.

I am telling with lot of pain that, its a most horrible movie I have seen in recent times. It was frustration, pain to live those 3 hours.
Story is plain crap, there is no love at all in that love story. All the charecters are baseless and rediculous, pathetically scripted.

Both the lead stars looks promising. I am sure its terrible launch pad for both of them. Randir instead of creating own niche, tried to potray Rajkapoor's mannerism. I pity both of them for choosing such a terrible script for thier debue. End of the show, everyone in PVR cinemas, Bangalore were horrified with what they saw.(I could make it out with atleast 15 people).
Films like Johny Gaddar, Manorama down Under were just great.

I can tell you, the hype of Sawariya will fade by next Friday and It deserves to be among great FLOPS of the YEAR-2007.

Thanks
