Gr8 Music!
by Chris on Nov 24, 2007 01:32 AM

The movie was a disappointment in terms of entertainment. When one spends 150 on each ticket not to forget the money on eats and coke, is that too much to expect. After the movie I heard the music and was mesmerised by it. All the songs captivate and my friend who listened to it once almost put it on repeat mode. One needs to listen to it on a good system to get all the nuances. Maybe Bhansali will win awards and Sonam and Ranbir, in that order will run away with best newcomer awards. Both are very impressive actors and the fact that they are in Saawariya will be appreciated only in two years or so from now. Too bad the movie will lose money

Dear friend
Please dont use such words in your reviews. You give your opinion and please respect other views as well. Try to put in few sentenses as to why you like it. What is that in the movie which touched your heard, what was excelent ( may be some dialogues)that you liked. As I never found this movie good and it was a waste of investment.
Hope you understand and lets behave our self.

A real true review about Saawariya
by Gaurav Gaddhyan on Nov 20, 2007 06:53 PM  | Hide replies

Saawariya is one long song with some breaks for dialog. And by dialog I mean
girly giggling by the chic and some punch-me-in-the-face expressions
accompanied by pig-like grunting by the hero. One wonders if all the actors
are the props and the set is the real star in this movie. I came really
close to concluding that the bridge-over-the-fake-river is the central star
of the movie, because everyone of the other actors looks like they were made
of rock. And the rocks had moss growing over them. And the rocks were
painted blue

To say Saawariya is a crappy movie would not be correct. Horrendously
Ridiculous comes close, but it doesn't really capture the essence of the
absurdity that this movie is. After watching this movie I felt like tying up
Sanjay Leela Bansali alone in a room, forcing him to watch a cockroach chase
a spider round-and-round a water fountain for 3 hours. That too in blue
light. Because seriously, that's what this entire movie is. It's two grossly
untalented kids, who probably got kicked out of college for lack of
attendance and ended up on this set to spend the rest of the day. And for
the love of God, I can't figure out why the whole movie is in blue! Maybe
the director was trying to get every frame half-black half-blue so that the
WinZip compression would work better to save some electrons, what with all
the global warming and all. That's the best explanation I could come up
with, because nothing else can explain the lack of daylight (or p

The real DON
by Kris Trivedi on Nov 18, 2007 03:20 AM

Bada Don Kaun???? Amitabh
Chota Don Kaun??? Rajpal Yadav

To Sharukh kaunsa DON??????
Bichwala ha ha ha

Sharukh is nothing more than bollywood mafia, who dictates demands and pays critcs for good reviews and success of his most crapiest creations... Not only that he does it godfather style. calls this bhukhe nange critics for lavish parties, loads them with gifts... gives people like raja sen who cant afford a vada pau, murghi to eat and then guys in return lick his feat.... First he got threatened by Hrithik, then Abhishek and now Ranbir... That is the difference between bada Don and yeah bichwala don... Amitabh always let his acting and performance speak for him while yeah bichwala always speaks a lot but performance it always sucks....

it is not a bad movie, just a different kind of movie
by Shankar Iyer on Nov 17, 2007 10:24 PM  | Hide replies

it is not a bad movie, just a different kind of movie.. and yes.. it is very difficult to make a movie like this.. but yes.. masses in india will not be able to appreciate it and yes.. perhaps somewhere mr bhansali forgot that movie making is also a business and one should not spend so excessively on experimental films
it is a movie made in the format of an opera..
it reminded me of a movie 'heer ranjha' ( the raaj kumar - priya rajvansh movie ) in which every dialogue was written to rhyme or sound poetic. unless one innovates/experiments one will never progress.
media has been very uncharitable about saawariya.. not that I have any sympathies for bhansali or even the new comers, but then one need to introspect on what standards we are setting for ourselves in the realm of media and journalism..
as such the credibility of media is falling by the day ; and it is such biases that are responsible for this erosion

Perfectly said Mr. Shankar. Further I will like to add that those criticizing this movie should listen to the very first dialogue of the movie. Utmost care is taken to craft this movie but unable to understand the biased sense or nonsense of the media. It is a theatre experiment drafted in movie which need to be accepted as a new trend setter in the journey of Indian cinema. SLB although masses may not be with you but be assured that followers of class are and will be with you. So keep going.

I've seen the film without any expectations, as some of my friends told its hopeless. But I like classy films and changes in presentaion and all. Still, I couldnt enjoy any dialogue or any actions/dances/songs just because there the script fails to transfer the feeling of the characted to the audience. thats wht i felt about it. The only people to be appreciated in it are the one who made such an excellent set, and the cameraman who made certain shots unbelievably excellent (e.g. the scene in which Sakina beats up the carpets. man, that shot was awesome). i dont agree tht its a class act, despite trying for it. The scene whr the hero tells the heroine about facing the probles in life, by comparing it with a boxing ring actions...where HORRIBLE!! the kids have to learn a lot..so we can leave them. There might have been a lotta hardwork behind this, but if it doesnt get paid off, nobody would spend some bucks to watch it.

G
Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his films
by G on Nov 17, 2007 08:03 PM

Even when I saw the promos of sawariya I thought Sanjay Leela Bhansali has lost it. For a long time he has been living on the edge. Hum Dil De chuke Sanam was a well made movie - but oh SO regressive. Devdas was a piece of crap - his 'reinterpretation' totally ruined the story and he seems to think Zamindar Bengalis had punju tastes, lived in tasteless mansions and went about saying 'eesshh' and 'ori baba'. I thought that movie would flop but he was saved. Then came Black and i was really surprised that this man is capable of a movie like that - but then remember he had great sets to set the mood in that movie and he had the great amitabh bachhan himself to prop him up. Now he seems to have indulged in this vainglorious attempt to reinterpret Dostovesky of all people. Why something so difficult - full of aubtle unsaid, unspoken nuances and undercurrents which are impossible to reproduce on screen? Why not someone easier and lighter like Shaw or Wilde? bcos I think he has impressed himself by doing an author whos name half the people will have trouble pronouncing and the other half will have trouble associating with.
This doesnt take away from Omung Kumar who has really made stupendous sets - this man is geneuinely creative. And it's a pity that there is no accompanying book which I could buy to keep looking at the sets again and again. The new actors deserved better - but then, to be really mean, looking at their faces I dont know how far they will go.
Why blame the review
