2007 was like any other year
by Sameer Bhagwat on Nov 02, 2007 02:21 AM

Rajan Sen dude get your brains out of your backside and look at every year starting from .. whenever say,1994 and Bollywood will always have 7-8 ok movies.. so what's the big deal?? The movies you mentioned are nothing but average or below average run of the mill movies seen year after year with the same story line..

Let's wait for something different to crow about..

box office money cannot be the benchmark for cinema!!!
by mithun on Nov 01, 2007 08:47 PM

In a country like ours, where people go to movies to vent out their frustration - where movies are the 'escapist' way out for the common man, movies cannot be judged by their commercial success. This escapist attitude means that senseless movies like Dhoom-2 and Vivah will earn a lot of moolah....

Movies like Manorama - 6 feet under, Johnny Gaddar, Bheja Fry etc tackle with a particular genre with a great amount of articulation and therefore bring out the nuances of the craft to its fullest.

They may not become top grossers because of lack of star appeal and traditional bollywood values, but with the number these movies increasing rapidly - it sure seems the right way to go as said by Raja Sen....

And yes there are a lot of film-makers who are exhausted after years of donkey work. An exception to that would be ManiRatnam though - yes his guru was way below par but he did not seem exhausted - he seemed to have buckled to a "RELIANT" commercial force that manhandled the movie and the cast....

3) Well how about MGR/NTR crap. They were the biggest perpetators of corruption.Sanjay dutt is an exception.
4)Javed akhtar is as probably two times better than vairamuttu for example.Gulazaar is as good as kannadasan. What exactly is your point??

I remember the days when trash movies were totally ignored by the media for review. Now all movies are reviewed irrespective of good (not made now-a-days), bad or worst movies. Then only goods movies were reviewed! Trash heroes can now only sustain only due to media hype. We could not see those heroes/heroines (like Salman, Ash, Preity, Aftab, Arjun, Rimi, Priyanka, Lara, Bobby, Zayed, Fardeen, Bipasha, Sahid, Akshay, to name a few)!

dayaa kar do.. akshay is one of the best actors today! his timing has been great of late.

and what you mean "not made now-a-days"? you stay with your "old gold" movies, nobody is forcing you to watch these "trash" movies.. but there are people who find many of these movies good.. in fact i just loved "life in a metro" and was stunned by "johnny gaddar" this year. and i don't think "laagaa.." was "regression" as raja sen says.

kudos to raja sen for having the courage to say mani ratnam showed signs of exhaustion (to put it mildly..) when everyone is trying to cover up the guru fiasco and convince us it is the first hit of the year..!!

by Jimmy Sharma on Nov 01, 2007 04:45 PM  | Hide replies

Thsi year hasnt seen a charismatic films like RDB, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Omkara.

Also there were blockbustres like Dhoom2, Fanaa.

The only noticeable film this year and a sincerely good film was Chak De which isnt the biggest box office hit sadly.
