I believe there is a good element of truth in the allegation that these contests are a farce.... else, why is it that we never had Award winning "material" till India became a flourishing economy with high disposable income? As for Japan being a developed economy, that does not make it a non-market. It is still an important market for the European and American beauty industry. Just because they make cars doesnt mean their women dont use make-up. As far as ordinary looking people winning the contest, there will be more changes coming up. It is similar to the way Barbie dolls were "toned down" in sexuality to make them more Ordinary.... Similarly, the perception of beauty will also undergo changes, we'll have ppl with more flesh passing off as beautiful very soon

Rahul Khanna you make no sense. As Lara said in her winning answer way back in 2000 that "Miss Universe is a platform which gives us young women a platform to forehead into fields, be it armed forces, Etc, it makes us as independent as we are today"(sorry it is not exactly quoted). But my point is that she was totally correct. Miss Universe pageant does give women a chance to choose her career. Please, why would they be naked? I believe people who see Miss Universe Pageant as something shameful, have a dirty brain. They don%u2019t see what this pageant is offering; they only see the body with swim suits. Please stop being such narrow minded.

No I disagree banning the contest. It gives the greatest fullfillment to women, their whole life revolves around how they look and how the world judge them. Like boys want to be best macho man even in early childhood. I think it is good and healthy and it should be promoted more to have more women get interested in it.

I agree with u 'on' ..infact I suggest we should have naked miss universe contests..
Miss Japan as Miss Universe 2007 was a pleasant surprise.It was fustrating and dissapointing to see the restructured and knifed women from latin America/South America winning all the time so it was indeed a very welcome and deserving change.Miss India Pooja is a beautiful girl but she is a bit short when compared to other contestants.If only she was one or two inches taller then she would be in the top 5 as she is really the most beautiful Miss India after Lara Dutta.Its time we start sending taller Miss India.Indians are naturally beautiful but when compared to the tall international standard they will never stand out as they are dwarfted.All the Miss India have what it takes to be the best internationally but they are too SHORT.Good for Asia as we have a new Miss universe and i am sure the next Miss World will be from Asia too.
did u watch out of 5 of them 3 were 4m america where the contest was being held n the two were from asian east those chi puuuu. i cant understand how do they select them. she is lookin like a flat road.
Ya if India doesnt make it, ppl have the notion dat it was biased. Grow up!!! While Puja Gopta is pretty, she wasnt the best n hence hasnt gotten chosen. Lara Dutta n Sushmita Sen were exceptional daz y they won. Infact Lara Dutta got a highest total of pts in the history of the contest. But not everyone is dat gr8. Priyanka Chopra may haave blabbed out the wrong answer but ppl donn realize the dat she was already way ahead in the other rounds n the confidence in her answer despite the blunder n the way she carried herself put her on the top. Nobody after dat has had dat impact...till som1 exceptional comes along, better stop bein sore losers.
