Since I had the good fortune of hearing these brilliant singers, I would like to point out that the performance on May 20, 2007, was held in Toronto, Canada and not in Atlantic city, as has been reported in the first para of this article.

He is Himesh "The Tapori" Reshmiyya. Thinks he can wear a Baseball cap and show attitude.
The Show at Boston only has Asha Bhonsle and Sonu Nigam, but does not feature Kailash Kher or Kunal Ganjawala. Thats wierd . Why its only at Boston those two will not perform????
Any other venue city which has this wierd sceaniro where only 2 of the 4 will perform ??
Once all are in USA whats the problem of all 4 performing together and why only Boston with this wierd combination of only Asha Bhonsle and Sonu Nigam performing ???
A 70 plus Asha is still best in hindi, and in the company of Himesh, Sonu etc even now she is better. But that speaks volumes for the lack of talent especially in music dept of bollywood. Hindi film music has virtually degraded or at best stagnated since 25 years or so. Much unlike southern film music that has grown leaps and bounds while still retaining old charm. What ever little fresh music has flown from the southern composers who are bolder and willing to experiment keeping basic melody and rhythm in place. Bollywood listeners have to move on and try fresh ideas. Don't take this advice in the wrong way!

Agreed that Hindi songs have stagnated and the southern music has blossomed. That said, the southern songs are not even close in standards where Hindi songs were in the 60's , 70's and 80's. Sahir , Naushad , Rafi..these talents are rare and gets created once in a century. The likes of Annu Malik and other jokers cant match that. Its sad that songs like ' Zindagi Bhar Nahin Boolegi woh barsat ki raat ' was done in the same alleys where bozos like Kumar Sanu sings today...

I completely agree with you Fanmanu... I am a north indian who is well exposed to southern music as I have been living in south for many years. I still feel that in southern film industry (all languages), except for AR Rahman and a handful of others (read almost none), none can match the kind of orchestration that Hindi music (films & albums) have to offer. Even AR Rahman once said that southern music is more melodious and hindi music has better orchestration.

I am amazed by the timelessness of the songs like 'woh jab yaad aaye bhaut yaad aaye ' and 'mujhe dard e dil kaa pata na tha , mujhe aap kisliye mil gaye' . I some how believe that its like works of Michaelangelo and other maestros which cannot be recreated. I often take a lot of flak for saying this but some facts are facts.

Ilayaraja is the music director who gave a meaning of "orchestration" to film songs. So please do not say only "north" had the orchestration. I listern to both South Indian/Bollywood for years. I have my own collection of songs from years 60s to Himesh. To illustrate this point, Naushad did touch Ilayaraja's feet for his talent. Coming to ARRahman, he does not have orchestration skills and he himself mentioned it. He is good at composing with modern techniques and is talented too. Most of his music sounds like "taken " from mediterrnean music.(If u have a chance, plz listern to them). The current generation of Bollywood Music directors are also giving today's music. The tiem changes , the music changes and the generation taste changes. But we can not say the music is not good. Himesh music made the country to dance. Pritam has his own style. We just need to respect the old music directors and singers and their work but need not throw dirt at today's musicians.
The only pathetic thing in the bollywood, still "Asha" is singing. I do not beleive that there are no good singers in the North for the last 35 years. It is a shame on the bollywood industry not to give chances outside their network. Himesh was correct that there were "GREAT NOSTRIL Singers" in the yesterday generation. So yesterday's all singers were not good and music directors were not great. They also copied "bindas".

Hi Shashank, I don't know the correlation between music and orchestration that well. But I guess, orchestra only supports music. True music doesnt need orchestra. I don't hold AR Rehman on high regard anymore, so I don't care what he says. I don't see much creativity in his work anymore, bacause I've heard most of his 'orignal' composition from the west. Only creativity he has, is to listen to them and just mimic it.
The show in Chicago was very much mis-managed or to put it in better words - cheaply conducted.
The organizers used a tin roofed basketball court for the show, with metallic chairs for the audience paying as high as $225. There was even a "bleachers" section that was sold for $35.
I am surprised Sonu and Asha were singing in that environment. We could hear multiple echos and could not hear much of the vocals when the music was loud. Very poorly done, lots of money made by the organizers.
Asha was not able to keep up with the music, but does lots of innovative stuff to keep the overall performance very entertaining.
Chicago again did not receive much time from Sonu, only about 30 minutes... And there were no duets...
In short, the experience was un-fulfilling and left a bad taste, along with sore bottoms.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But thank god there are only few who resonate with Abey. Ashaji is the best.
