I think, everybody here is trying to see only the "Negative" aspect of this whole thing. What I've observed is,
1. Firstly, many do not seem to know what's like going "Weak in the Knees" and have mentioned it as "Knee-jurk". Utter lack of common sense.... as they are Two entirely different genre of "Activities" if I may say...
2. One of the Top Magzines in the world, has mentioned that Richard Gere was voted as one of the Sexiest Men living on this earth, in 21st Century. He's been famous, in our country as well (Pretty Woman, American Giggolo, etc.) So, what's wrong if he's using his charishma in getting some media attention for a worthy cause ?
3. Does anyone know that, we rank THIRD in the most no. of HIV patients in the world ? Do we we want to be the First now ?
4. That's why building of awareness is necessary and so is a little media attention. What more can be achieved, than calling some of our Best buddies from Bollywood ? Many Indians blindly copy them, anyways...
5. I also do not advocate kissing in public. That doesn't happen in our culture, between Two adults who are not related to each other. But come on, Gere has shown sincerety in admitting that, he got a little carried-away and did land a peck on Shilpa's cheek. Let's forgive him on that account.
6. As for Gere appearing in Kofee with Karan, what's wrong if he says Bipasha is HOT ? Tell me, who the hell in India would differ on that ? She is HOT. And, NO hot blooded Indian Male, young'n old alike, would not want to Kiss Bipasha. Why sound like a Hypocrate ? Its just a little publicity stunt and we must use our "Brains" to ignore it, that's it.

Sandi, you wrote crap! There is an approach to every issue. Do not mix up things. More than half the people suffering from AIDS may not even know or have access to know the charisma and popularity of Gere, so the effort of media attention, publicity etc. is bull shit. In our country itself we have more popular and famous personalities who can do a better job (with whom we Indians can even better relate) than Gere's and with decency. What say?

Hello Sarma, Its sad that you could not "See" the overall observations made, on this whole issue of Mr. Gere's visit and so called opinions of some of our Morale brigades.
Its my point of view and well, its different than yours. We should agree to disagree.
It does not give you any rights to "Rubbish" anyone's opinion and do not use offensive language, is my request to you..
Actually, you've missed the whole point and it seems rather childish.

What the crap ! What your more popular actors are doing ? At most, they will show their face in TV and utter some written dialog. That's it ! They are not concerned about anything in our society. At least this man is doing something. You must understand he is one of the biggest celebrities in America and he would get nothing in return if comes to Delhi every other weekend to work for AIDS awareness. He could have a lived a hassle free life in New York and would never have been criticized by unknown entities like you.
You know what, I believe what he did Shilpa Shetty was intentional. He knew there are people like you who will take offense of it and make it a big issue. At least he would get some media coverage on AIDS awareness. I don't think he really cares whether he is famous in India or nt.
