Why does Mira Nair show inappropriate scenes all the time. Those scenes don't really fit in well with the rest of the story. I have seen it in Mississippi Masala, Monsoon Wedding, and now in Namesake. Mississippi Masala had a guy trying to get into bed with a sleeping lady. Monsoon wedding had an olderman molesting a small girl. Now in Namesake, she wants to show the bedroom scene of Tabu and Irfan Khan, and also naked back of an ugly actres with Kal Penn. Who wants to watch those scenes. On top of all this she complains about Indian sensor board. It's better she gets into rehab. May be it was her upbringing which was the problem. She also complains that she couldn't show a scene where Mausumi character shows her breasts. Does she think it's really PG-13. Movie was fine, but I can't stand the fact Mira Nair is benifiting out of it.

Don't think those scenes were vulgar at all. In fact they were quite well picturised and acted. And come on, that actress wasn't ugly at all...
I have seen this movie tabu is much more better actress than rani and it would have not been possible for rani to lead this rold and irfan khan is damn goodshk and bahishek are just piece of crap.Shk kkkkiran and abhishek useless
Namesake or no Namesake, I just hope many more movies with more more relevance to real life come to the fore in Indian cinema. Watching the stereotype performances of Shahrukh Khan, or directors re-writing the war times, and the couple dancing around the trees... has become something that just sells for the heck of it.. Like they say "Sex sells", so does I guess every base matter does.
I still remember watching black and white movies of 1965-75, which transformed my outlook towards life and certainly did have an impact on shaping me up in a nice manner, even when i watching them I was just 10. Cinema should reflect the society at large, the issues troubling society and suggest ways out of it, instead of just being a money spinning venture where just the brand sells.
As for the Namesake, good that Rani and Abhishek, din't do the film. Though I have just seen the trailors of the movie, I can still contend that they would not have done justice to the role. They are good as Guru or the lady in Black, but some movies can only be done amazingly with really talented artists. The last good movie I remember watching was "Khosla ka Ghonsla", another movie which was close to real life drama and had brilliant performances from 'just talented" actors.
I am tired of the theatres showing the so called new generation movies....god ....give us a break from karan johar..aditya chopra etc...etc...India deserves much better....I think channels like NDTV and times now should give prominence to movies and art shows with some character instread of promoting crass commercial ventures...ITs disgusting to see eminent personalities like Prannoy roy praising Abhsishek bachan... We can understand when his channel promotes amitabh bachan...and also its a change to watch Bachan Sr. with diff. directors..but he should look at the script instead of the banners...Cant imagine Abhishek bachan as gogol...well...Hope Mira nair doesnt make the mistake mani ratnam made with Guru

whoever thinks mira nair 'could not afford' rani and abhishek'.... its the production house which pays the actors rather than the director and in this case, we're talking of UTV and 20th century fox...do you think they can't have the best actors onboard for their films ?

Rani is a good actress - just check her role as the mute deaf girl with Amitabh (what's the name of that famous movie?) Abhishek however lacks talent and is just riding his daddy's coattails. But Mira Nair is right about not including anyone who has no time for rehearsals. It's her movie, she has every right to set her standards and stick to it.

This film is reaaly very well marketed in North America. Every day I see a big advt of this movie in LA Times' Calender. It is getting good review from all the newspapers.I really like the projection of this movie as a major production. keep it up. They are also showing trailer of this movie in all major theaters. I was hoping that they release the movie in AMC chain.

It is Rani's loss, without any question. The fact is, Tabu is a far better actress, I can not imagine anyone more suited for such kind of a role!
I see it other way. This is mira nair's inability that rani and abhishek do not want to work for her. She want to wrap it in different envelope... geek.. !!!
