THE GREAT Manna dey is travelling all over the world for functions. From auckland to ahmedabad. at 87, he is full of energy. he can still sings 2 hours at a streach. age is beaten here. 10 days back, His new bengali cd came out from HMV. Here he sang 8 superb songs on love and cricket. the meaning of cricket song is applicable to team dravid and so called indian cricket fans. the first line of the song is LIFE IS LIKE ONE DAY CRICKET WHERE UMPIRE IS GOD WHERE NO BODY KNOWS THE CHARACTER OF THE PITCH one day cricket and philosophy of life are shown in that song rgds
It's good to see one of our greatest Singer and good comments by some of the readers but I do request to rediff not to put the unscruplous message on board.it seems that always(when you post a picture) some nonsense comment was there. One should give respect to others succesful life & image.-Shiv,Calgary,Canada
Just magic... Everyone (including non bongs) should hear those songs at least once. Dont worry about the wordings - they are so tough that even I cant understand 80% words of each stanza of most songs. I am addicted to the rithu songs (prokhoro daruno, gohono megher, ogo borsha tumi), o chand, amaye aakash bollo, all remaining bong songs and all of the hindi songs. I am sure most will like to hear Kishore. But Kishore will like to hear Manna.
simply phenomenal...I wonder if any one at all could render numbers like 'laga chunari mein daag' and 'phool gendwa na maro'. Another aspect of him was his rendering of songs with difficult Urdu lyrics..Yaari hain iman mera.." never gave him away as a Bengali...his Bengali songs are simply out of this world !!
I%u2019m a die hard fan of Manna Dey. I have a very good collection of Manna Dey and everyday I do listen him while commuting to work. I wish someday I could meet him in person. The best one I like is %u201CLaaga Chunari me Daag%u2026%u201D and %u201CChham Chaham Baje re payaliya%u2026%u201D.
Manna Dey undoubtedly is one of India's greatest singing legends. Each and every song of his is so soothing and great. Recently he was on a hi-fi news channel speaking of an equally great legend OP Nayyar (if i am not mistaken) who just died. The 25 something news reader talking to Mr Dey was just cutting Manna Dey half way all the while, which naturally pissed off Mr Dey. The proud Manna Dey refused to talk further and cut the line then and there. We felt so hurt, such a nobody insulting two great music legends. I feel that these stupid news channels understand only "AB", "AB's baby" and "Ash" now-a-days, so they better stick to them only.
People who also listen to Bengali music would have heard him in his peak; he was very good but unfortunately had to play 2nd fiddle because the genius of Kishore Kumar was in the same era. Manna Dey in an interview had also said that very explicitly. Having said that, he should retire now as his last Live Show in US proved that "age is age" and he should rather retire with people remembering him as a great singer than folks saying "oh, he just won't give up for money". In short retire like Sunil Gavaskar
Long live Living Legend Manna Dey! The whole world remembers him for 'Chatur naar' and RK's songs from 420 / Chori Chori / Awara ........ But, few of oldie lovers like me remember him also for his unique songs like Uper gagan vishaal (as singer cum asst. music director to the great Burmanda)..... Mukesh Thakkar
