I too feel that Sanjaya has done nothing for us to go overboard. He did not sing any Indian song or speak in any Indian language. He is participating the contest as an American and wants to be American Idol, not an Indian Idol. I guess that even if invited to participate in the Indian Idol contest he and his sister would flatly refuse to be a part of it. But our media is really sick and gives undue credit to people for whom the true Indians dont even matter.
Sanjaya is only 17 and I appreciate his enthusiasm in participating in American Idol contest but it is not his talent that has given him a spot aming the Top 12. He has the potential but has a long way to go.

You must be crazy, all kids of NRI's or even an Indian parents are very much Indian though they might have a different citizenship. If you would've got a chance to live in the US with your husband/wife, wouldn't your kids have an Indian upbringing??
Staying in a villiage in India does not make you more Indian than any of the NRI's. Can you tell me what you do for the country which the NRI's don;t do.

I don't the Indian community is keeping his alive. I guess his Mom will be having a HUGE family as she is an Italian, and her sister seems to be too desparate about him being in the competeition.

I dont know during auditions he sang pretty good then when the real deal started it is really horrible. I dont know if the story is relevant to india (though rediff is posting in a way that whole india will know who the hell sanjaya malakar is?). But his singing is nothing compared to the other people. Okay he is indian and we should cheer but, he gets rebuked because of his "bad" voice as well as his weird feminine appearance (hair style yuck). I think he should retire at least and give the other people chance.

well said, and i still wonder how on the live show everyone is admiring about hair style- my god- he has a weird haird style and his artificial laugh ------ conveys that he is not confident at all.
