Namesake

It is quite a brilliant picture to enjoy, quite lucid. There are of course some editorial mistakes, e.g., in the begining when Ashok is veering through Howrah Station, you see an ad of IndusInd Bank. The bank was not probably there at the time of happening.
However, the best part is simple complexities that unmask our own in real world. The film is certainly better than reading Namesake.
Why the subtitles for bengali local bhatiali was not given. Was it deliberate?

Does Screwala mean it's that bad a film that people would faint ? Bhaiya, stop this stuff. An audience which did not fiant seeing "Garam Masala" can tolerate anything.

Stop boasting and wait for Namesake to prove itself. Then we'll see who faints.

I am sure Mira nair should have done a brilliant job directing the movie...the book was brilliant...We expect good movies than dhoom, krish, kank etc......i was fooled by the rediff review of eklavya lately .....annd i have made a resolution to stop visiting Sridhar theatre in Kochi whihc used to be the best theatre in kerala atleast for the movies it used to showcase.....now they release only the most absurd hindi movies.......I hope the theatre management read this...

I can't wait to see this movie.

If any of you watched this movie then please share your thought. Especially whether you like it or not.

If your best movies is Krish...then you too let me know what you thought about Namesake. If you really hated it that tells me something as well ;)
Just kidding...no hard feeling.

these days movies are made in a particular method. first, they see around 100 hit movies and then copy good scenes from each movie and here is your new movie. OLD WINE IN NEW BOTTLE.

In Mumbai its your capabilities that matter not your surname. Besides there is no such thing as a mediocre Parsi; either they are brilliant or just plain dumb.

I bet Mr. Screwvala identifies with Gogol that is why he is so taken by Namesake.
Having lived in Mumbai and having heard people(even school teachers!) make fun of longish south indian names and anything that sounded a bit strange to peoples ears, I refuse to believe that no one would ever have poked fun at Mr. Screwvala's name in Mumbai.
If he is a success today then it must be against the odds of having such a name and the credit for that goes to him and his strengths and abilities as much as it goes to Gogol in Namesake. It has nothing to do with living in Mumbai or New York or being a Parsi or Bengali.

Agreed to u. Dhoom shud have ended at interval.Krishh was a Bull S movie.same is BS KANK, Eklavya. Media partners like Indiatimes and Rediff create so much Hype.Ppl think the movie was good after watching since they have spent 150 on it per head and they wud be laughed at if they really tell that they slep in hall.Like the ones who are criticizing u :))

I agree, Dhoom 2 was aweful..more like a modeling stunt & crapy story & yea..Krish was torture, for a movie that was so lame that it couldn't match 2% of the hollywood's original "PayCheck"! (Besides, Hritik acts like mentally retarded in many scenes every since his sci-fi ET inspired flick)

Namesake
by r s rao on Mar 09, 2007 05:54 PM  | Hide replies

It has been observed that Indian / Indian made foreign/art films which are a box office 'hit' abroad (I mean all countries other than India) gets lukeworm response here as one can see the culture of 'Dhoom'/Krishh. Current generation People in India look for glamour/violence/indecentexposures/horrors/cheap jokes. In such a situation, this film, though it has all the right ingredients would meet with desired success here.

it is the same everywhere mr.rao. Spiderman and Shrek draw more audience than many academy winners. it is not a reflection of the movie. it is like our classical music and popular film music. as long as these two worlds dont collide, it is fine. ultimate aim should be entertainment without affecting society negatively.
