y cant u ppl remember his gr8 works?mayb ur lost in quantity.he writes everything so simply,nd still it touches.u probably dunno wat kind of lyrics music dir.s want 2day,i know tht very well,nd anyways he isnt short of vocablary or imagination.had u heard sarfarosh being used for an aashiq?or guncha?there are many more,nd if using more and more vocablary is writing gud lyrics, lemme tell u abt ppl who use poetic dictionary, theyr better lyricists.its abt writing meaningful.no1 else can stir ur emotions like he does.he can romance thru his words, cry thru his words, flirt thru his words,nd probably do anything.hes simply the best.
hey guys, I agree with u that he is not the best. Its true that he has more number of hits then anybody else in recent times. May be this could be the reason why people are comparing him with legends like Gulzar, anand bakshi, Javed saab etc. but we all know he is always short of new words and thoughts. He is lucky enough to have company of good music directors. The one more reason why directors opt for sameer is that he doest not much time to write a song. people from film industry call him "instant lyricist"

hey CAP, how did you reach this profound conclusion?

its funny inspite of giving so many hits you never get to see sameer win an award. no wonder you dont see amir khan coming for the awards ceremoney
Sameer is no where near the oldies like majrooh, sahir, gulzar, anandbakhsi, shailendra. I think the fall in standards of lyrics is done by sameer even his father Anjaan is better lyricst. After all old is gold and Sameer is nowhere near now and who needs him besure lyrics for besure himesh topi reshmiya.Made for each other
In this interview, Sameer talks of two songs, Oh Priya Priya and Baghi's Chandni Raat Hai... both were line by line copies of Telugu and Tamil songs by Ilay Raja..
In case you are wondering where the challenge was/... The music directors Anand Milind already had the CD.. The music, interludes, timing... they were all set. All Sameer had to do was to go back to his template containing standard words and lines and come up with the lyrics... That's a challenge indeed. Hats off to Sameer!
Is Sameer joking? Oh Priya Priya was a copy of the popular Telugu song Oh Priya Priya from Mani Ratnam's telugu film Geetanjali, nd composed by Ilayaraja.
Anand Milind owe their career to Ilayaraja, whose many tunes were copied shamelessly by the duo. In fact most of their hit songs like Dhak Dhak Karne Laga, songs from Baaghi, Vansh, Anari etc. were all copies of his popular Tamil and Telugu songs.
The title is so misleading, as if it's the story of a music composer. "A man behind a thousand Lyrics" is more appropriate.

Agree word to word. He's the first junk lyricist we had.
Sameer cannot come anywhere near Shailendra , Sahir, Majrooh, Hasrat Jaipuri, and mnay of the Lucknowi poets who wrote for Hindi films. Imagine a song like " Ramaya Vasta Vaya" Baharen Phir Bhi Aayegi" " Yeh Mahalo, Yeh Banavat ki Duniya" Aaaj Phir Jeeniki Tamanna Hai" " Bekaraar Karte Hua ... Aaap ko hamari kasam laut aaye. I hear all these songs sung by common folk in the Hindi heartland of UP, Bihar and MP. Still in marriages in rural areas , the old Babul ki Dua leti ja is played. The point is present day lyrics are all temporary and they will not stand water to the all time great ones.

rightly said. he is more of a tukbandi writer. All guys can't be gulzar or sahir ludhianvi, but he is quite substandard. he wrote good songs for ashiqui, but since then he has just been earning bread. no passion in his lyrics. Just think of "Tum agar bhool bhi jao to ye haq hai tumko, meri baat aur hai maine to mohabbat ki hai." Sameer, can you come anywhere near this? You lack not only in vocabulary, but also in thought.
He is a real magician..he can churn out any number of songs using just five words: dil, pyar, ishq, chain and ashiqui..In simple words he is a pakka bollywood lyricist.. he jells well with music directors like anu malik, anand milind, and to certain extent nadeem shravan also... we cant compare him with the likes of gulzar saheb or nida fazli..no wonder if he pens 10,000 in one year...sameer saheb dont take it as a competition..:) pls improve ur vocabulary, imagination...best of luck..

I think the biography should have been called "A way with four words". Most of his lyrics consists of just four words "deewana", "sanam", "dil", and "ishq"
