I really don't think that Sameer is one of the best lyricists in India. No..... Not at all.... In fact, lyricists like Anand Bakshi, Santosh Anand, Rajendra Krishen were real filmi lyricists. They knew how to pen filmi but emotional and romantic songs. Sameer has a boundary of a few words which he keeps on repeating in the same manner. I would rate him at the last rank when discussing Hindi film lyricists.
There is not much depth in his lyrics. Infact it is known widely that he employs other writers to write for him. Though one would admit that some of his lyrics are indeed popular.

a film lyrist is never a literary personality(exception being sahir).As they are admired by majority,and majority is constituted of fools,so only fools can call a film lyrist a poet.how many knows of nirala,pant,dushyant kumar,firaq,majaz,faiz,rabindra nath tagore?
