Yash Raj has recently been playing such safe games that they have bored the audience to their limits. I dont think in this age of Bollywood experimentation we viewrs will bare such booring romantic flicks. I appreciate romantic films but for starters lets keep it indian. Most of these flicks are more than half full of english and over modernisation.
It was the history when Yash Chopra was the acnchor of the Yash Raj ship. He was articulate, innovative and fresh in each formula movies he had produced. But with todays films with Aditya Chopra being a anchor of the ship, that glory is lots. Today's Yash Raj films are more copying what others have already made, no more innovation and creativity. Adi, you need to grow up, otherwise Yash Raj Ship will sink in no time in Bollywood sea.
If Yash Raj Films' time is really up, that'd really eb a reason to celebrate. But call me cynical- this is just a temporary phase if you ask me.
A Yash Raj film is essentially this: a simple story, very little originality, an overload of emotion, one-dimensional characters, only the most successful actors of the day, catchy soundtrack, gorgeous international locales and a helluva lot of pre-launch publicity. The reason this worked in the past was that the larger-than-life characters appealed to an India that for the most part suffered from severe deprivation of everything material. However in today's global village, where most "middle-class" folks live lifestyles that a generation ago were considered high-flying, the "phoren" factor slowly fades away. Also, with the sort of exposure audiences today have to quality cinema from across the world (including a burgeoning home-grown parallel cinema that is fast going mainstream), their patience for substandard scripts and poor production quality is wearing thin.
So I figure it's just a matter of atime before YRF wise up and start delivering the real goodies. My only fear is that they may devise a formula for that as well. That would be a real tragedy!

Exremely well written, Kharbanda!! I echo ur sentiments and second each n every word, u've written in here.
I saw Tararampam recently...I am an avid Yash raj movies fan and was really disappointed to see the same old stuff.First of all Yash Raj movies need to make movies which are for all..apart from Gujratis and Punjabis. Rani,Saif,Priety,Abhishek,Amitabh need to grow up and do more mature roles...Saif and Rani looked stale in Tararumpum. The story line is predictable.Songs are really run-of-the-mill. Coming to JBJ,I am sure not many in London could relate to it ( If that was the intention behind making it so that more people throng to the theatres here) ..Priety needs to do something meanigful. She has got lot of potential and looks gorgeous.Abhishek should learn something from his gorgeous and talented wife. The only exception was Lara who looked and acted to the tee.She is Bollywood's today. Yash Raj films need to get the new generation of stars in their films . Overall,Yash Raj Films need to transform themselves if they want to make something work for aundiences abroad.
I believe nearly all movies from Yash Raj are copies. He is a big copy cat. Uses plots from Hollywood movies. He should be banned from making films and his movies should be banned in the US and UK.Then only we Indians will be able to make original movies.

Dear Mou, Yash chopra doesnt make movies anymore(since 1997). His son Adi looks after the entire Prodction house and packages them with the directors working fr them. When YAsh Chopra did make films, they were always class apart. Dont sling mud on him and hv show sm respect.
Dear Rediff, can you please put your facts correct? why do you guys persist to five incorrect info and misguide the readers? Tararumpum did not fare bad at all in the box office, both in domestic and overseas market. After 7 weeks the movie had given 2nd biggest net business of 2007 in India after Guru. After 7 weeks, the net collections of the movie recahed Rs. 37.18 crore, higher than Namaste London and SOAL will not reach this figure as per the current trend. The movie had given a overflow in spite of its high cost. It has already crossed the Above Average category and embarked on Semi Hit status. As per the public reaction, the families and kids are still loving it. Thats the reason, even its 8th weekend is going houseful in BBy, Delhi, Hyd, Blore, Pune and Kolkata multiplexes. Just because after 1st week you guys said its a flop, why do you persist in continuing this, which is totally wrong? No ego issue guys, just state the correct fact and not mislead the readers.

But Nilesh, I do agree with Kaushik. I happened to watch Tararumpum, last month(july), 1st week and contrary to wht I believed, I found the audience was thr in a good no. in Mumbai. My parents watched it in June in Delhi and hd the same experience. sometimes, it takes a film to WORK. I guess, thts wht happened with Tararumpum. JBJ was a complete washout, everywhere. I'm in no way related to the YASHRAJ FILMS but thot it appropriate to put the facts, here correctly. If u r just out to tarnish YASHRAJFILM's name, then its a different issue, altogether. You can't judge a film's fate in just the 1st week of its release.
