1. Most producers think that if they release original DVDs, people will not go to theatre to see their Movie. This is wrong thinking. People who want to see movie in theatre they will see in theatre and the one who does want to see on DVD, will see it on DVD.
Release original DVD in 2 months time of movie release.
2. Flood market with original DVDs and on-demand video over cable networks. Also flood with rentable DVDs (which is big business in western world).
3. Keep price reasonable. I understand that making a film costs a bomb, but you cant expect a small group of people to pay for it. Its numbers game. If you sell originals at low cost, it will create enormous market for it.
Gulshan Kumar proved numbers game in 90s. Do some market research and find out a point where both of them are balanced.
4. A huge population in western economy has HD ready TVs. They will be happy if our movies are distributed in HD format (which is less piracy prone).
Once someone is watching movie in HD format, they will be reluctant to buy low quality pirated DVDs. But don't be foolish and sell HD movie at very high cost compare to DVD. The cost difference of creating DVD and HD is very less. So might as well sell them in similar cost.
And yes, keep your fight on... and gain sympathy of people so that they stop buying pirated.

First of all Indian Directors,Musicians & whatnots shd stop lifting scenes/tunes etc from Hollywood movies & world music & not use the excuse of being "only inspired" .Even Yash Raj films had copied the ending of Salaam Namaste from '9 Months' starring Hugh Grant. Abbas-Mastaan & Mahesh Bhatt are also rampant copy cats who copy scene by scene from hollywood movies.Mahesh Bhatt/Pooja Bhatt do not leave even the design of Hollywood posters alone.Recent movie 'Holiday' was copied from a Hollywood film, The Train was copied from Derailed. The list is endless. Thiefs from Bollywood shd remember its a case of the Kettle calling the pot black. The Bhatts & the rest shd keep their big mouths shut & not talkabout piracy bcoz stealing from other people's work is the worst form of piracy.
The real fight against the pirated CDs/DVDs cannot be carried out in Courts. You may win an ode case, but the menance remains. The strike is to be made at the roots. The original CDs/DVDs, whenever available, are much costlier and are beyond the reach of the common man. The producers should curtail their margins and bring down the cost of the originals so that a common man can afford it. The pirated would automatically vanish from the market.

Dear, We should appreciate the efforts made by Moser Baer who have not only maintained the quality and originality but also brought down the MRP to Rs.34/- per DVD and Rs.28/- per VCD of Hindi Titles. Even their Dealers are selling it below MRF prices i.e. Rs.30/- and Rs.25/- per DVD/VCD. Likewise, film producers should come out with matching price so that people opt for originals.
Just as tax collections go up on reduction of tax rates, sales of original dvd's is bound to go up if their prices are drastically reduced.Lack of margins will definitely be made up with the spurt in volumes.Think about it all you producers...
Catching or going after pirates is never going to provide a solution. Piracy is going to be there in one form or the other, be it pirated DVDs or online networks like p2p, eDonkey etc.
You may shut down one channel, another will pop open.
The ultimate solution is to drop the prices of the originals drastically. That way even if one has to pay a little more than the pirated version, he/she is getting the original and hence the great quality.
In short, the issue is only going to be solved when we are going to get original DVDs @ Rs. 40.

Another point to note here... If we wipe out DVD piracy, original film DVDs will be available 2 times expensive than they are currently. Monopoly comes with more expense.
If we look at original hollywood DVDs, they are available in UK at double price than original bollywood DVDs. Also one point to note here, same bollywood DVDs are available cheaply in India whereas in UK they cost a bomb.
I am not insensitive to the loss these media houses are suffering, however they must understand importance of their business. Films are now necessity than luxury.
