by Vasant on Jun 13, 2007 11:26 PM

I'm a big fan of Rahman's Music. No doubt he is master of his profession. I'm not a big fan of Movies in general (watch only a 3-4 movies in a year).
I would like to listen to Rahman's no film music. In the last 15 yrs he has composed music for over 100 movies in different languages but only a handful of personal albums.
Anybody shares this thought?

There are a lot of guys who pretend to be fanatic tamilians, and make stupid posts and open pandora's box in terms northie-southie clashes.Lets comment on the article. I'm from Chennai but i would have loved Rahman's music even if he is not from my city.

Sometimes you cannot ignore talent! For years many bollywood fanatics, farted around saying that ARR was repetitive! Just like they say things about KamalHaasan too. But ARR beat them in their own game-even if you ignore his Tamil compositions which are far superior to his hindi ones, you cannot ignore his genius!
Rajni although he goes beyond language barrier is still doing only Tamil films. All of his best works are in Tamil/Telugu and not some lousy roles he did in Amitabh's shadow in hindi (it's a mistake he acknowledges) And that is something a north indian will never digest.
According to North Indian fanatics (I refer to those who are fanatics) MS.Subbulakshmi is great only when she sings Meera Bhajans and not when she sings Annamacharya or Bhaja Govindam, Kamal is a good only when he does Chachi 420 and not when he does Anbey Sivam or Panchathanthram, SP Bala is good only when he sings for Salman Khan and not when he scales new peaks even after 30 years in Telugu, Tamil or Kannada, ARR is similarly best even if he does a mediocre RD Basanti and not when he does Jillendru Oru Kaadhal!
Bottom line is according to hindi fanatics it is patriotic and Indian only if it is in hindi. Whether they love hindi that much or not they will use it as a stick to beat south indians always!

Mr Vasantgopal,
If you say Tamil is best. I would say Hindi. Because easy simple and widely adopted. If you make anything in your laguage and start saying eureka eureka, we will ask you what is that?
The truth is Tamil is one of the oldest lang but not prefered lang. Pl digest it.

dude, who prefer what here ? southies will like southie languages. A bong will prefer bengali and a gujju will prefer his native language (lets say on an average person). There is nothing special about hindi here. It just happens to be another regionally "preferred" language. "Other" regional musicians make hindi film music since hindi is widely spoken in India and happens to be the "national language" (i prefer calling it "common language"). My observation is that bollywood has been influenced with modernization lately in music w.r.t the tunes (if you have heard to what is called 'pop' in the western world). Of course, I dont intend to spark a needless discussion. Hope there can be some unity in diversity, if thats what our social reformers and older generations called it.
