Dev Anand is one of Hindi Films'most cahrming stars and unlike todays'overactors like Shahrukh he never tried to show his histrionics but always
turned on his charm on the screen. My best wishes for his colour version of HUM DONO with lilting melodies still fresh in our ears

Mediocre Actor But Entertaining
by bharat on Jun 04, 2007 04:46 PM  | Hide replies

Dev Anand is a mediocre actor, but still a great entertainer. He is loved by his fans, including me, for his trademark style but at the same time, when it came to acting skills, other actors of his times, (say Dilip Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Balraj Sahni) would surpass him by miles.

Bharat,
Can you tell me the list of mediocre actors to make me understand about your point of view.
Dilipji and Devji were actor as well as star but Ashokji and Balrajji were good actor only.
Everybody know that Nasirji was better actor than Big B and Ajoy is better actor than SRK but they(Big B and SRK) have more star status.

For your information Devji got Bharat award(then best actor for National Award) on 1965 for Guide. He had so many film where he acted brilliantly like Kala Pani,Kala Bazar,Hum Dono,CID,Kalabaaz,Asli Naqli,Solva Saal,Tere Ghar Ke Samne and so on.
Obviously you have a right to comment but think before it.
I am waiting for your list of mediocre actors friend.

Watch Guide and Kala Bazaar if you think he is a mediocre performer.

He was such a charmin personality that most of the directors were busy encashing on his charm, a few bothered to untap his real acting skills and Guide and Kala-Bazaar are one of them

his acting skills were tapped by his younger brothr VIJAY ANAND ( GOLDIE) . his all top class movies were directed by him . NO- DO GYARAH , KALA BAZAAR, HUM DONO ( OFFICIALLY IT WAS DIRECTED BY AMARJEET , BROTHER OF KALPANA KARTIK , DEV S WIFE ,BUT IT WAS REALLY WRITTEN , SREENPLAY , STORY AND DIRECTED BY GOLDIE )., TERE GHAR KE SAAMNE , GUIDE , JEWEL THIEF , JOHNY MERA NAAM . apart from goldies film dev acted well in c.id , kala pani , directed by raj khosla , asst . of guru dutt . and baji , jaal, directed by guru dutt himself .

I have not watched Kala Bazaar, but Guide was a good story and would have been a great movie if the director had handled the story sensibly. The duration of the movie should have been lesser by at least 20 minutes earlier instead of stretching the melodrama to crazy heights (or depths)! Ofcourse the songs were great and I would'nt mind watching this movie and several others of Dev Anand only for the music!

Again, I think there were times when Dev Anand over acted in this movie and there were other actors around at that time, who could have done better justice to the role which Dev Anand played.

He Was The First And The Last Word Of Romance
by prashant kumar on Jun 04, 2007 04:18 PM  | Hide replies

I am a die hard fan of Dev Anand and I could never had a feeling for any of the females I met if they aren't been in love with HIM. Firstly my mother who introduced me to him in 1967 with Jewel Thief and till today when i am going to hit 50 soon I am in ave with this man. May GOD be kind to this true Karm Yogi and make him melt in the company of this new generation.

Dev Anand in Hum Dono
by Manoj Joshi on Jun 04, 2007 03:37 PM

Hum Dono is one of the best films ever made in Bollywood. Dev Anand was cut above the rest. Music was simply superb. All the songs, in particular, Abhi naa jaao..., were too good.

Now, Dev Anand's Hum Dono in colour
by Rajinder Katoch on Jun 04, 2007 03:36 PM

I simply love Dev Anand. I have personal BW dvds of Hum Dono and Teen Deviyan. I don't think a romantic hero like him can ever born.
