Almost every character on the simpsons is a stereotype - Ned Flanders, the super-religious guy, Krusty the jewish clown, the incompetent cop and mayor and so on... Simpsons thrives on stereotypes... And if you have watched the simpsons, Apu is portrayed as a very smart and insightful man. He knows more about american history than Homer or anyone else. Grow up! It's only racist if you think your race is superior to all others (there are some desis who think they and their culture is better than anyone else's). Stereotyping for the sake of humour is not racist. Dont hindi films have the effiminate madrasi or the stupid punjabi or the nepali gurka going shalaam shaab? Or the corrupt maharashtrian cop/polititian? (Ever seen a corrupt cop called Malhotra? Nah... it's always a shinde or a sawant)... So, grow up... desis are racists to themselves!!!

PS: Apu is supposed to have a PhD in computer science. (Of course, why he works at Kwik-e-mart is another story, but not all stereotypes have to be negative.) that makes him the most well read man in springfield :)

man you think just like me, its the desi's who are more racist but are very sensitive to accept it. i live in england so i know how racist indians and pakistanis are but always blame the whites.
your remark about shinde and sawant was great..... indians discriminate by language, rewligion,caste,color,region so on and so forth. but whites descriminate us because of our cheaph and ungratefull nature.
Wel Humour is Humour...Stop cribbing and Crying...We in India also have Sitcoms make fun of Punjabis and Biharis to say the least...And its all in the fun...we also protray the White Skin in our movies as stupids and cowards... the Gora is always shown to sissy and Sly...So JUST Chillax and enjoy Life...!! If you think Simpsons is turning racist, then go watch South Park. However it is my favorite show on TV and it is the only show that considers no one above ridicule. Every sacred cow is slaughtered and everything is made fun of. That's how a show should be.

Wrong, South Park tried to pull one on the Danish cartoon thing and they were ripped apart and the episode was stopped from screening.

Nobody ripped anybody apart. Comedy central censored an image of the prophet. Thats it, it was just an image. It was a shame they had to do it. That episode aside south park makes fun of everyone, Indians are not under their radar but Muslims are ridiculed often. But if anybody on TV is not racist it is South Park folks. At least from South Park, I can ascertain that stereotyping != being racist .
Apu is one of the reason I watch this show...other shows may have east asians but never a south asian character, even though south asians form a big portion of the legal immigrants...And if one has seen Simpson's episode which depicted concept of Indian arranged marriages...they would know how they showed the beauty of this tradition while making fun of it at the same time...I completely agree with Dhawal Parekh, Grow Up !
Grow up and start understanding humor. Not everything is racist. Simpsons are funny. They make fun of everything. And consider this, Homer Simpson is a white American guy and how do they show him on the show. A total dumbass. Try to laugh a little and understand jokes instead of complaining.

Well the above is also humor plz don't take it personally(it did hurt right as it was personal) so plz.. Stop defending mal practices. This gives a felling that all Indians are like that. There is a thin line between humor and sarcasm. Try and understand it why only in 7/11 if its humor why not in dignified places. As there is a fear of getting emotions hurt. Indians have never spoken in one notion thts why we still are not super powers. Long live Indians..
