Thanks for your enlightening views Darius.By the way arent you the same Darius who was roped in by Radio Farishta of the World Space Group for an O.P Nayyar obituary? Let me tell you that if you are the same person Iloved the prog & your bold & fearless views. You are right victimizing Ashaji is indeed our national passtime &it's high time "non-entities" such as the authors of the nasty e-mails should be brought to task.Congrats for the whiplash. I remember Peenaz Mesani(a fellow Parsi!!) saying in an interview that O.P clearly instructed her to emulate Ashaji's "singing style".Now here is one big contradiction. The same man who is supposed to have not only "shaped" Ashaji's "destiny" but also given the singer her "singing style" asks an aspiring artiste to tread in the so called disciple's illustrious foot steps!!.The Parsi lady sang well-very well indeed for O.P but as you would say "the resonance, magic & incomparable vocal artistry" of Ashaji was missing. To be expected for had not O.P rated Ashaji as a "once in a centuary singer"?

TREAT ASHAJI WIYH MORE RESPECT!
by Darius Kakalia on Sep 10, 2007 08:09 PM

Asha Bhosle the most recorded artiste in the history of world music had two major musical blockbusters before "Naya Daur" to her credit-Shankar-Jaikishen's "Boot Polish" for RK Films &SD Burman's "Nau Do Gyarah" for Navketan. If OP Nayyar made Ashaji why did he fail to acheive similar results with Krishna Kalle, Dilraj Kaur, Vani Jairam,Usha Timothy & the very talented Ms Runa Laila? Talent can be honed &perfected upon, discovered & projected-never created. What Ashaji imparted to Nayyar Saab's compositions is something history will never witness again. What magic what resonance & what incomprable vocal artistry. To quote the maestro:"All I did was to instill in Asha the belief that she had the ability not only to outdo her sister but also every other performing artiste. When she overcame this mental barrier the rest she achieved all on her own" Also the writers of the published twelve letters could well do with a rudimentary course in good manners.Respect for an artiste of Ashaji's calibre would certainly not be out of place particularly as all twelve happen to be non entities in the field of legendary achievement making their views seem of no significance at all.Try coming off as originals, rather than parroting the bigoted crap Raju Bharatan has been feeding your puny minds with for decades.

Atrocious injustice to O.P.Nayyar
by curao chalasani on Jul 20, 2007 07:53 PM

While showering so much praise on Naya Daur songs and music by a number of people, they as well as Rediff seems to have written a "new Ramayan without Rama". It is a deliberate injustice at best and a a hateful insult at worst.
How could any one talk and conduct an event on Naya Daur without ever mentioning Nayyar's name?
Is Rediff run by people who stoop to be dictated by unscrupulous and ingrates? Without his name, The whole event has no sanctity and moral authenticity. OPN's music was the greatest asset of that film and raison d'etre of its being re-released. Those responsible for this insult, especially after his sad demise, should question themselves if similar fate awaits them. I am not able to find a more charitable view of the nauseating attitude manifested in this disgusting event.

Gross injustice to OP Nayyar.....arun bajaj
by jitesh shah on Jul 15, 2007 11:37 AM

I fully agree with the views of Mr. Jay Subramanyam and Kaveeta Kaul regarding the treatment BR camp meted to great OP Nayyar. It is shameful and disgusting. Our film industry is becoming uglier day by day.It is reeking with petty minded, ungrateful, selfish and materialistic people who have no values left in themselves. The whole country knows that it was
OP who made Asha.
One poet has written these lines for OP, I think....as if he is asking Asha.....

"Aadmi aadmi ko kya dega
Jo bhi dega wohi khuda dega
Mera kaatil hi mera munsif hai
Kya mere haq mein faisla dega?
Zindagi ko kareeb se dekho
Iska chehera tumhein rula dega
Humse poochho dosti ka silsila
Dushmanon ka bhi dil hila dega
Ishq ka zeher pee liya "faaqir"
Ab maseeha bhi kya dawa dega."

A. Ganesh Nadar
Please write something about OPN and Naya Daur. There is no Naya Daur without OPNayyar. You can write a separate article about OPNayyar, if there was some sort of condtions applied on you by the makers, the web site owners and the songstress who took the pedestal to re-launch the music.

Waiting for Ganeshji to remove this obstacle of hatred ( Vignaharta) to write on the genius of OPN.

Nayyar's nine nuggets

Naya Daur (1957)
Asha Bhosle had had stray hit songs before. But this B R Chopra blockbuster in which she sang all the songs for an A-list heroine (Vyjayanthimala) firmly established Asha as the playback singer second only to Lata Mangeshkar. It also established Asha as a fixture in Nayyar's oeuvre.

At the peak of his successful streak with Naya Daur, Nayyar proved that a composer could be a thumping success -- and consistently so -- even without using Lata's vocals ever!

Naya Daur's crowd-pleasing score is limned with the robust Punjabi rhythms of the bhangra in songs like Reshmi salwar kurta jaali ka, Yeh desh hai veer jawano ka and the ever popular Uden jab jab zulphein teri.

Nayyar won the Filmfare award for Best Music Director for Naya Daur but his brusque personality didn't find him place in any camp. Consider the irony -- Nayyar never composed for a B R Chopra or a Dilip Kumar film ever again!

Naya Daur
by madan mohan joshi on Jul 11, 2007 09:40 PM

I was a little child when I saw the movie by a resident association club in an open ground. The screen was the the big wall of a building. every character of the film and every scene with lilting songs created such a deep impression that even today I distinctly remember. It will definitely be a great opporyunity to view its new 'avatar'.

Why this injustice to Nayyar?
by Jay Subramanyam on Jul 11, 2007 06:33 PM  | Hide replies

What deplorable people! It is barely a couple of months since Nayyar Saab passed away and not one of them has the gumption to at least, pay a token homage to the composer's nascent genius. Let me tell the Chopras that without Nayyar's outstandingly palletted score, 'Naya Daur' would have appeared more of a trite docu-drama than anything else. Nayyar ji's name also added credibility to the film apart from making it commercially viable. Undoubtedly, his music was the 'biggest star' of the film.

Disgraceful are the ways of this industry. An Asha Bhosle is placed on a pedestal yet, the composer who played the biggest role in shaping her destiny, is a forgotten entity today.

I agree.
It was indeed disconcerting to notice that the contribution of O P Nayyar was ignored in as much as avoiding the mention of even his name in the article and ostensibly in the event that took place.

In a world where talent is hard to come by to witness such insensitive and uncaring attitude towards on eof the maestros of Indian cinema, reflects badly on the present lot and their sensibilities. perhaps they ought to remember well that tomorrow it will be their turn to be lost in the melee of 'forgotten names'. Time is a great leveller.

No mention of O P Nayyar?
by on Jul 11, 2007 02:21 PM

it is so surprising that a music release function and the great music director was not even mentioned? Shame on Bollywood people having such short memories! We are a group of his fans and have spoken of it here

Thousands of people read here and now will know how there is no value of those dead and gone!!

No mention of the late OP Nayyar
by Gajanan Mohite on Jul 11, 2007 06:46 AM

The genius has been forgotten. What is this. Shame on all of them not to mention OPNayyar's contribution. Aa... Aa... Asha Bhonsle makes no mention of OPN and on top of that , the Chopra brothers , not even a sound on OPN. Rediff should write a separate article on OPN. It is really very sad that Asha has not mentioned OPN , who was solely repsonsible for shaping her voice. This outright chewing gum da mama hai. Flavour khatam tho phekh do.

My tribute is : OPNayyar's soul amar rahe
