Shilpa's victory is for the whole of Asia and nay the right WORLD
by Vridhachalem Subramaniam on Jan 30, 2007 09:54 AM

Make no mistake about this ! Be it pageantry ,be it catwalk, be it poetry, be it physical, mental or spiritual the third world is waking up to the Reality of show business. And believe me it is no mean achievement, to go through the mill and come out successful against so many odds - some of which was publically presented meanness of sorts, which no decent educated human being can put up with.

It serves Judy right to geta six month VISA to the Indian subcontinent.Don't give her another extension lest she writes a big Brother BOOK on her gutterwashing experiiences in the orient and sells it for several million nasty illth, which will make another story for the fourth estate.

In the meanwhile let us learn not to gloat too much over yet another TV show for the idling Millions for whom tthe rest of the world is toiling day and night.

At the same time let us not fail to congratulate Ms Shilpa Shetty for making the whole of Asia proud with her good show!

Keep it up and go for further laurels,Shilpa!Remember you are not an Appalam or pappodom! Yor are creame-de-la-creame and we in Asia bless you with greater achievements than this minor one.

What is all this about representing India ? My India is not for sale to cheap gimmicks, run of the mill bollywood actors. How many of you knew Shilpa before the episode ? It will be shame to feel "proud" winning money like this.

Sense or Common Sense

I am amazed with some negative comments on this issue by some mean minded people who are yet to evolve into a new world of unity and integrity. My general feeling about these negative commentors is that they will be the most happiest people if they were in Shilpa Shetty's shoes right now... but as we know about this nursery story "Grapes are Sour" these pessimist's belong to this group.. Alas!! Indians from this category, please wake up and learn to be proud of whatever Indians Achieve; even if you cannot... I really appreciate Mr. Maneesh Kapoor for his well scripted words on this issue.. Good job gentleman...

I like the way u put it.... I completely agree with ur view. Indians should be proud for every achievement by an Indian.....in whichever field.... Atleast the people could not do it themselves....should atleast learn to clap for others....

Shilpa Shetty has done us all PROUD!!
by Maneesh Kapoor on Jan 30, 2007 06:44 AM

Shilpa Shetty has done us all PROUD!!

I am shocked at the negative remarks, slagging and abuse on this site by fellow Indians. I ask these people:

- Has anyone of you ever lived in OR visited UK??
- Do you really know the mentality of the general british public??
- Have any of you ever stood your ground when faced with any form of bullying or abuse(anywhere in the world, including India)??

If not, you don't have a moral right to comment on this issue. Ignorance is not a virtue anyone should showcase.

If yes, it's surprising and shameful that you still choose to make such remarks.

Everyone wants fame and money, but to be able to achieve it in an unknown envoirnment amongst foreigners and still come up as a winner is something we should all praise and learn from. She hasen't robbed or killed someone, she has exposed a very real problem and created an envoirnment where it's effects can be diminished.

Shilpa Shetty has done us all PROUD!!

She made India proud
by Lakshmi Gaur on Jan 30, 2007 03:12 AM  | Hide replies

First of all, Shilpa made all of us proud. She not only represented India, she said "she is not going to tolerate slurs against India and its neighbors", which is admirable.
Looking at some mean messages against Shilpa, I was reminded of our ancient history. Remember, Alexander the Great didn't conquer India with his might! Jealous Indian ruler helped him. Instead of feeling proud these turkeys are jealous of this young lady that made a statement on the show. True she went to make money; show business is her livelihood, after all. But, she stood up like a rock of Gibraltar amidst adversity. I can't imagine any other actor doing what she has done. Three cheers to Ms Shetty.
Rediff has to exercise some editorial privileges to chop some silly postings.

I totally agree,

I live in London and I know that what she has done and achieved is simply incredible.

I myself fail to deal with similar situations in an appropriate manner a lot of times. Infact, I have personally learnt a lesson on how to deal with this subtle form of racism which exists in today's british society (and believe me it is not that uncommon).

Teaching the british a lesson in humility and dignity, that too on their national television and still winning them over is something amazing and unheard of until now.

She has done us all proud.

Don't agree with you...Just because she is famous and made money and is an actress doesn't mean she didn't represent the country. I am proud of her, because she didn't stoop to their level. The british people understand what honor means, even though indians like you seem to have some difficulty understanding that!

its sad the way u people write these messages here....i have watched big brother here for the first time in my whole life here in the uk and never have i seen any indian have so much of dignity and pride to be an indian such as shilpa....she was decent and well mannered she spoke of india with so much of respect etc...and in the end she won...she fought a battle alone in the big brother house where no one came to help her from all the bullying and bitching and racist comments.....that just goes to show you how much we indians suffer here in the uk day in and day out....british people consider us illiterate and uncultured....but shilpa came and showed the whole uk how intelligent and mannered we indians are...and now british people look up to us and have changed the way they feel about us....all i can say is WELL DONE SHILPA !!!!..IT TOOK SHILPA JUST 26 DAYS TO CHANGE WHAT BRITISHERS THOUGHT OF US . a battle well fought and right to the very end untill victory was achieved. by vanessa
