Well, we have lost one of the finest "Music Johory".He carved countless fine pieces of musical jwelleries from the 7 notes of the indian classical music and lent them to the "qulity music" thirsty indians thru the impecable vocals of Ashaji. He will be eternally remembered and revered by millions across the country for his valuable contribution to the Indian music industry. May his soul rest in peace.
It is an unreplaceable loss to the world of music.Everybody talks about the typical rhythms that Nayyar saab introduced to Hindi film music, but most miss the fact that he composed some of the most memorable and touching sad melodies ever composed, like "chayn se humko kabhi", "hai duniya usiki zamana usika", and "aanchal mein sajaa lena kaliyaan." And he showed to the sycophantic hindi movie music world that Lata Mangeshkar is not the end of the world. Hats off to him!

I respect OP nayyar and his music, which was unique, melodious stood out, makes you feel you miss him in his death. But unreplaceable loss? lets not be hypocrytes! He is not been composing for more than a decade now. So with due respect lets cherish of what he has left for us to cherish, rather doing a foul cry of loss, which is not!
"Yu to hamne laakh haseen dekhe hai, O.P. Nayyarji aapsa nahi dekha". Aur dekhenge bhi nahi. The demise of O.P. Nayyar is a HUGE loss to the music industry. A couple of times that I have briefly met him in Pune, I have known him to be a great personality and humble at heart. I will always cherish these memories through my life. May his soul rest in peace. Ashwini Belvalkar-Deshpande, New Zealand.
The wise men's saying that the GOD takes those whom He likes most first has come true once again!!! Alas!!One more twinkling star from the galaxy of musicians has fallen down to the grief of all the music lovers. It is very difficult to digest the news of sudden passing away of O.P. Nayyar whose music continues to enthrall the audience even today especially when we hear Asha and Rafi's songs for which he composed music. Though branded as stubborn and obstinate, he sticked to his stand of not working with Latha at a time when no future was said to be there to one who opposed/antagonised her.He braved it and never budged an inch from what he believed.Hats off to his individuality!!!I pray GOD who blessed him with a painless and sudden death which any aged person can aspire for to rest his soul in peace.
He was a Vishwakarma who created his own world of music without the voice of the cuckoo. The one and only who rendered Lata Mangeshkar's filmography incomplete when every other composer depended on it for the success of their songs; some even fell at her feet. Sher da puttar that he was.
He was a Vishwakarma who created his own world of music without the voice of cuckoo when evry other composer depended on it for success and some even fell at her feet. Though gone bodily, his music shall always remain with us. OP, the only composer who rendered Lata Mangeshkar\'s filmography incomplete. Nandu Belvalkar, Pune

very true,& one can always add many more unforgettable melodies by him, there is a site www.indianscreen.com with a special page on OPsaab's songs. A must see.
OP Nayyar was great but as with many other Music directors Md Rafi made him greater. To be fair to music directors of today, there is no one like Rafi who can enhance a song ten fold. One great Nayyar song, often missed because of the un-Nayyar style, is "Aap ke haseen rukh pe aaj naya noor hai" from Baharen Phir Bhi aayegi (1966)

You are correct Mr Dutt, I dont think so any of the present generation singers can ever reach upto Md.rafi's level, even in those mono recording days his voice stood out perfectly.Present day singers/music directors/lyricist are all trash and they can never be compared to a rafi or a mukesh/shankar jaikishen or a naushad or op nayyar/ shailendra or shakeel badayuni or to sahir ludhianvi, it is so disgusting to see hindi songs stoop to such lows...

Absolutely right. But did you hear Mr Shammi Kapoor on TV today. Having worked closely with both, OPji and Rafisaab, he observed that it was OP who gave Rafiji a particular style of singing, OP's own, which stands out by itself. Nandu Belvalkar
Nayyar saab was a legend. His death has left a vaccum in Indian film industry. He will be remebered for his melodius music which have brought happiness on the faces of millions of music lovers globally. May his soul rest in peace. A. Rahman, New Delhi

OP Nayyar will be remembered now and in future. But no human leaves a vacuum as you say. life and things go on and on till the survival of humanity. God rest his soul in eternal peace.
What a great composer. His music will live for ever. Wll some one draw COURAGE TO APE HIS MUSIC instead of apeing the western music in indian films. Even A poor Nayyar "replica" would be more melodious then the music we hear lately(Not all of course)
