RAFI SAAB AND OP SAAB CREATED HISTORY TOGETHER.THERE HAS NOT BEEN A SINGLE FLOP SONG WHEN BOTH WORKED TOGETHER.UNFOTUNATELY O P STOPPED TAKING RAFI SAAB DUE TO RAFI'S DELAY IN ATTENDING THE RECORDING STUDIO AS HE WAS BUSY WITH OTHER MD..RAFI DID NOT GIVE HIM A FALSE EXCUSE.IF RAFI WANTED ,HE WOULD HAVE GIVEN ANY OTHER REASON WHICH WOULD HAVE SUITED O P SAAB....O P SAAB LATER ADMITTED THAT THE BLUNDER HE COMMITED DURING HIS ENTIRE CAREER WAS THE DECISION HE MADE OF NOT WORKING WITH RAFI ANYMORE...LATER ON THEY HAD A PATCH-UP..THEY WORKED TOGETHER AGAIN IN FILMS LIKE heera mothi,ETC.

A colossal loss indeed! May the departed soul rest in peace. Music is going to stay in the hearts of millions of us though the great composer has left for his heavenly abode.
It is intersting to note that the same report has been filed in the Deccan Chronicle issue dated Jan 29 that too with the same factual inacuracies on one of the greatest composers of our times! 'jhum ka gira re' was composed by another genius called Madan Mohan for "mera Saya' and sung by Asha; it was not a Nayyar's composition! The title song in 'Ek baar muskurado' in 2 differnt versions recorded as an Asha-Mukesh duet & Kishore-Asha duet speak volumes about the caliber of the composer.
Who can ever forget that racy number of his in RAfi's voice in Kasmir Ki Kali- " yeh duniya usi ki zamanaa usi ka"? Never-before and never-again any composer like OP saab!! OP Saab amar rahe!
O P Nayyar was a musical genius- the others who can be counted in that genre are Naushad, Madan Mohan, AR Rehman. Music Directors like Shanker-Jaikishen, Lakshmikant- Pyarelal, SD Burman, C Ramchandra, were undoubtedly brilliant, but a spontaneous genius was only one- OP Nayyar. Madam Asha Bhonsle took the best from him, then discarded him when it did not suit her anymore, and saw to it that he was completely alienated. OP Nayyar's story is the kind of stuff that Guru Dutt made films about... Surekha

Asha Bhosle is a genius. She has always reinvented herself. She is still busy with her live concerts all around the world. And making non-filmi albums. In the cut throat world of showbiz she has moved forward and moved quite well. She will perform with the kronos band at The Famous Sydney Opera House in Australia in March and in May will be in Toronto along with Sonu Nigam and Kunal Ganjawala. Surely she must have a good personal family reason to move away from OP.
a man who lived with no regrets..... thats how OPji came across to me, when i was blessed with meeting the maestro...... as i love to say, he was a "mortal man" who left behind "immortal melodies".........
From the time I started listening to Hindi songs at the age of about 15, I noticed that many of the songs which literally touched my heart were composed by O.P.Nayyar.
I did not know that he was not formally trained in music, but still it did not show in his works.
He was correct in choosing only Asha Bhosle for the best of the songs he produced. There was something in the combination of the two - the sweetness of Asha's voice came out best when she was singing for O.P.Nayyar - it is perhaps he knew how to tap into her hidden potentials, highlight the nuance in her voice and bring the sweetness out in all its splendour.
It is quite unfortunate that in his later years he had to face fall from opulence, but that was destiny.
He will be remembered fondly by many of my generation. At least we have his songs to remember him by.
I wish to add that some of the best songs have not been mentioned in your report - songs such as (i) %u2018Poocho na hamei hum un ke liye%u2019, (ii) %u2018Yahi Woh Jaga Hei%u2019, (iii) %u2018Mujhe mera pyar de do%u2019, (iv) %u2018Ankhon se uteri hei dil mei%u2019 and the like.
