No finght on language
by LAXMAN SASTRY on Jan 31, 2007 10:13 AM

There is no integrity in Indians. The white people (British) took advantage of it and ruled over us for more than 200 years. We are all Indians. Every Indian language is our language. We should respect every Indian language.

Shahrukh khan is a muslim and the meaning of Insha Allah means If allah wishes... There is nothing wrong saying Insha Allah. If he says anything about Mohd(pbuh) or the Holy Quran, You can claim that he is promoting Islam.I am ordant fan of SRK and Big B. The Bollywood Shahenshah cannot be replaced by Bollywood Baasha. SRK is a great actor and he does his job given by the Producer/Director. When the public likes his "Jadu ka Jhappi" and when there is no objection from the audience, please dont create any mess.

Sachin:
I think you need to ask the question:
what do you think will happen if any hindu said "Jai Shree Ram on Indian TV" - the answer is nothing! - as it should be with SRK saying his thing.

Something that is appealing to a minority does not have to be offensive to the majority (I say this as a Hindu).

There seems to be a lot of chauvinism / belligerent attitude in these forums - maybe a small look into the psyche of a certain part of the country.

How come all northerners wish to make hindi a national language. Do they feel that it will make India more competitive globally? Will it alleviate all the poverty in the north and pull us out of third world status? I feel that it is a romantic ideal that has nothing to do with pragmatism or reality but more to do with marginialising languages they feel are not pleasing to their ears. I as a kannadiga do not find hindi particularly pleasing to my ears (and the crude punjabi or gujju for that matter), but the reality is we have to accept others as they are and move on without worrying about such trivial issues.

Will it make INDIA competitive globally or pull out of Thrid World status, if we make KANNADA or TAMIL or MARATHI as a national language? The whole point is nobody is trying to understand and compramise. We are fighting over such minor issues and showing the whole world that we re not united. So earlier we stop all this nonsense, better we will be.

What should be the National language for India? Before giving the answer everybody should think why we need national language? If you are thinking correctly, you will know the answer. If you want to have effective communication across India and start approaching towards super power then go for one language. Well, most of the states (12) have Hindi as their state (regional) language then this becomes the obvious choice. Why dont wee take the advantage of this and try to make uniformity. I respect all the states and languages. Everybody loves their native language. It is shameful, some of the people doesnt even understand widely spoken language (Hindi) which is suppose to be a communication bridge between different states of India. Its time to become broad minded. I am currently in abroad. I have seen North Indian and South Indian are like strangers to each other. Nobody will say, they are from same country. Secondly, non Indians over here are surprised to know these people dosent even understand each others language. That gives them confidence to beat India anytime since we are not united (There is no question of dividing them). I would say some central states are doing good progress (e.g. Maharashtra, Andra, Gujarath etc..) because they are good in regional language as well as Hindi and English. I would suggest everybody to give up on narrow minded thoughts and unite again to give India the honour it deserves.

Commonman:
Your line of reasoning makes no sense. When in the USA, for example, if an American sees that a north indian and a south indian do not speak the same language, they will feel inclined to divide and conquer us?
I happen to live in the US and I have had close friendships form Indians of all states - our means of communication was this magical thing called *English*.
According to your reasoning, countries such as Switzerland and Belgium should have distintegrated long ago due to the multiple official languages and cultural differences within the country.
I still maintain that having Hindi as an official language at every corner of India is of zero consequence to the country's economic advancement. What is key, however, is the Center providing equitable distribution of wealth to those who created it in the first place.

Exactly. Equitable distribution of wealth. They play shitty politics in allocating airports, new railway lines or any infrastructure. They play shitty politics in allocating budgets, most of which goes to the BIMARU which only contributes to the burgeoning population. They politick so well that no South Indian ever gets to be the Prime Minister, of if he does, he lasts only six months. Yet when it comes to integration, they want us all to speak nothing but Hindi. Which I do and am pretty good at it, if you do think I'm prejudiced against it.

Dear Mr.
You must be joking right? If you say all widows are teated equally in our society now? Get your self updated or better WAKE UP.
Raja Rammohan Roy abolished the sati pratha, which is also a part of Hinduism, if a man like him didnt stood up at that time we would be still burning our ladied with the demise of their husbands.

Dear Friend, widow has not been abolished, only sati pratha is being legally abolished but that too keep happening even these days - search for it on the internet you will again find a good details of women becoming sati in villages of rajasthan.

And please kid grow up - Mind your language - few mature people are discussing an issue here, dont make fool of ypourself by saying things like you have said.

Our National Language is NOT Hindi!!!!

See What Constitution of India Says!!! and stop saying Hindi as a National Language!!!!!!!!!!!!!

India has a diverse list of spoken languages among different groups of people. At least 800 different languages and around 2000 dialects have been identified. The Constitution of India has stipulated the usage of Hindi and English to be the two languages of communication for the Central (Federal) government. The state governments use their own language along with English for communication with the Central government. For example, the central government sends its information in Hindi and English to the state of Karnataka and this state communicates back in Kannada and English. Information from the center to Tamil Nadu is in English and Hindi and this state communicates back in Tamil and English. India has a list of 23 official languages (including Hindi and English). These languages are entitled to representation on the Official Language Commission, and a candidate in an examination conducted for national government service may opt to take the exam in any of these languages. But in most of the states Hindi is popular for uneducated labor as this still is a source or means of communication in all of India.

Neither the constitution nor the laws of India accord the status of "National Language" to any language in India [1]. Indian law states that no language will be made the National Language unless and until all the constituent states of the Union of India accept it. Out of the 28 states and 7 union territories, only 10 states and 3 union territories have Hindi as the principal official language . "
