SHILPA SHOW
by kuldip AGGARWAL on Jan 23, 2007 04:37 PM

SEE AND STUDY NOTINGS MADE BY EXTERNAL AFFAIR MINISTRY, THAT SHILPA SHOULD DROP HERSELF FROM THE SHOW IMMEDIATLY AFTER REMARKS.AND THEY HAVE NOW ADVISED INDIANS VISITING WESTERN COUNTRIES THAT THEY MUST INFORM RESPECTIVE CONSULATE OFFICES, GOOD AND APPRECIABLE STEPS TAKEN.STILL WE SHOULD LEARN A LESSON FROM SUCH INCIDENCES.

When I go through the long writings of My friend Dalbir Bains I felt it is as if Ms. Shilpa had won a war or she contributed more than Gandhi to India and International Society. She had gone their to participate a "third rate programe viewed by third rate people". I have taken this remark from a Celebrity in Britain, I am not correctly remembering the words as correctly he used. Further she had gone their being offered a good sum, so she might be known the hurdles involved (Nobody will pay huge sums as gift if given they will take advantage of it) not for a Dandi March or a fast uto death or to raise any human issues or racism. We can interprete our hypocricy as we feel convenient. So I don't think she had done anything proud to Indians. In India itself we had lot of problems, Poverty, Unemployment, Casteism, Inter communal problems, we are doing nothing to put an end this issues. Even in Noida a lot of childrens have been killed since they are coming from the bottomline of the society they didn't get the attention they deserve and even those responded for Priyadarshini Mattoo case has not turned up to protest this incident and sleepness of state machinery towards this tragedy which was going over an year. I heard that National Commission for women also not responded properly. So this is called hypocricy, make a mountain from a mole at the end nothing. Break the bottles cheers. Shame I will call it. First study to give and after take.

Nanu we are no more in 40's or 50's when we need to think that india can be proud of a Dandi March only. What shilpa has done is against a vicious, provoking atmosphere held her head high & maintained her dignity. She made the countrymen of Jade to see where the young ones of that country stand. She has also proved to the world how patient & tolerant Indians can be. And as far as problems of India are concerned may i ask u what contribution u have given till now in your personal capacity to uproot these evils which are infesting our country & society at large.

nanu,
clearly you have no voice of reason and are simply intolerant to seeing someones success. as an indian who lives in the US i am well aware of racism and am proud that shilpa rose above it and now comes across as a fantastic representative for our contry. and oh, in your life may i ask what you have done for society? as an actress shilpa has always done her job well and has made an amazing movie on aids (phir milenge). even if one life was saved by that movie or if someone attitude towards aids patients has changed, she has done way more than you or your likes have done or will ever do for our country.

This is a typical response that scoffs at anything being appreciated, unless it has the visible marks of 'social upliftment' behind it. Our country still has enormous problems with human fundamentals such as poverty, desease, education and the rights of people. However, as we rightly pay our attention to these issues, we must also pay heed to the issue of national pride. Shilpa Shetty did not cure Malaria or social injustice. But what she did was equally important from a national perspective. She was an unofficial 'ambassador' of India. Her actions reflected upon a whole country. She could have chosen to be equally crass and vulgar, but she didn't. Much of the media in the west has lauded her for her role and commented that of all the English people in that show, she ironically has espoused the most English of traits - civility, dignity and pride. This will hopefully go a long way for much of the west recognizing our new role in the world. Many of us are highly educated, confident global citizens. The inferiority we felt after 300 years of British rule is a distant memory. This confidence will help us tremendously in the act of nation building in the 21st century. WHo knows how many youth inspired by her example will go out with confidence into the world, sell our products and build economic prosperty for our country? I'm afraid this is where we typically miss the point. So caught up are we in the 'Gandhian' model of frugality and prudence as a means of upliftment, that we fail to credit the additional, softer impact of other contributing factors such as this.

Yep, I agree with you, this is a typical whiner response.
Whiners will always find some ways of responding to something nice which happens in a complaining way. For them, nothing good can happen unless everything is perfect. There will always be this problem or that or something else..
Nanu, do not worry, no one is thinking Shilpa's act is being projected as something bigger than Gandhi's acts or of other great leaders of India. What she achieved was good name for her and by extension for India in International press. While that achievement will not solve all the problems of India, it is something which warrants some credit to Shilpa.
Meanwhile, keep working on other important issues which India faces. And remember, when you face hurdles, do not easily give up, blame it on system and start whining. Keep on working towards it and maybe you will make some postive change too. However small the change is, there will be appreciative people and whiners who will tell you how there are other bigger problems :)

At each spell the atmosphere is taking change, accordingly they who blame us too

Within few days how we feel that we are humiliated? Our incapable former rulers bowed and kept their crown and turban to those british dictators for how many years? Therefore, this type of racism is not new for us. One day the wind will blow to the opposite side and then we can discuss more in detail. Up to then we do our duty trustworthy and sincerely.

hmm lots of ideas... but first

1. They were never our rulers... they were just a bunch of savages who occupied our lands.. lost it and ran away

2. big brother.... shilpa...c'mon people its all show biz... there is nothing patriotic about that

3. All i see is one single person's comments against the other.. lets not involve nations in this.. UK is relatively small, its not fair to compare.

4. Its all about money... a publicity stunt. There are better things in life than a TV series .... isnt it ?

The entire episode tells how so many things can be produced out of nothing.
a) Publicity for Shilpa
b) Publicity for Jade
b) Publicity for the show
A very clever ploy, befooled millions.

I guess it is high time to stop discussing this issue anymore. This article only serves to sustain the clamor created by a trifle celeb show. Let us focus our attention on more important social issues. Even if one is concerned with racism, there are several ways one can contribute usefully rather than discussing a reality show.

what sould we discuss man? To make a terrorist who attacked parliament a martyr? To send a man who slapped chappell to jail? To make friendship with pakistan who was born of Hindistan but started raping her much befor becoming adult? OR makeing 100% reservations for every body except Hindus, particluarly poor hindus?? OR should we sing songs in respect to our queen Soniya, prince Rahul, princess Priyanka and their feet lappers??
