Londoners - Pl do not vote
by DAO on Jan 19, 2007 07:56 PM

Dear All,

Pl read and send this message to as many people as you can, if you agree.

The target is to send this mail to atleast 1 million people by 8pm (UK time) today requesting them NOT TO CAST THEIR VOTE in Celebrity Big Brother TV programme

The TV programme 'Celebrity Big Brother' has sparked a debate in which Channel 4 and the producers of CBB expect to be laughing their ways to the bank. This is because producers of CBB have asked the viewers to express their opinion by casting a VOTE.
Each vote is worth 50p for CBB. They expect to make anything between ?2-3 million as they hope approximately 5million to 6 million votes will be cast today i.e., 1 out of every 5 households in Britain! The Carphone Warehouse boycott will not affect Channel 4 much.

The whole game is about money. Jade, Shilpa, CBB, Channel 4 all included. All news of patch up is motivated for this reason. Therefore the best way to stop this is to simply REFUSE TO PLAY THIS GAME.

If you feel that Channel 4 has stooped to deplorable ways of making money. PLEASE DO NOT CAST YOUR VOTE.

Our target is to send this message to as many people in the UK as possible. If this reaches 2 million households, CBB will make ?1 million less money. If this reaches 1 million, the loss would be ?500,000. That's enough for people associated with CBB to understand that viewers do not accept this.

SS

PS - 1 million is an easy target to achieve. I send this to 100 people. If all 100 people send to another 100 people that makes 10,000. If these 10,000 send to 100 people each it makes 1,000,000 = 1 million. By no stretch an impossible task in a networked world of today. More than 5 million British households have broadband connection today. Let's try our best to mark our protest.

India doesnt need an actress to representative in Realty TV shows!
by Priya Jay on Jan 19, 2007 07:41 PM

Hi, I have been watching BB here in London. It looks like Jade was inducted for this as she comes from a council's flat(like slum)and her background is not so good. She ia not a celebrity but a former BB contestant! I wonder if Shilpa would ever have accepted to stay with such people in India(like Dharavi)! The %uFFFD350000 ( mega money) is working for her! she had the option of moving out herself , but she hasnt done that! She cant complain as she must be knowing BB is a programme of rivalry and ousting people with allegations! so, she must not have participated or she must say she represents Indians in this show! Indians DO NOT need represntatives in such a lousy TV programme! We as professionals and businesspeople , in the frontier are better to represent young India than these bollywood actresses in Realty TV shows!

Clash of Class!!
by Shumon Sengupta on Jan 19, 2007 07:36 PM

I have been following the issue pretty closely and have watched the past couple of episodes with a great deal of interest.

Lets not forget that Shilpa and Jade represent the two extreme points of the social/class spectrum. Shilpa has everything in her that most other ladies of the house, Jade in particular, does not have i.e. class, dignity, grace, beauty, sophistication, education and popularity. So it is only natural that the other ladies in the house should be threatened.

A show like Big Brother however is a great leveler. Despite being polar opposites and being far from equal, Shilpa and Jade are both aspiring for the same result - to win the game. So they have been brought at par within the house.

The clash therefore is inevitible - that between restrain and dignity on one hand and unbridled vulgarity and aggression on the other and that is what we see played out in the show.

Given Jade's background, her language (verbal as well body) are things that one can and probably should ignore. These are things she can easily work on. However the comments made by her does rake of racism and stereopyping and indicates a lot of contempt towards Indians.

Although the ladies - Jade and Llyod have apologized and redeemed themselvs to some extent, and one cannot ignore the fact that they have done so more to protect their own interests than any genuine sense of regret.

The show has served to once again highlight two issues - the clash of class and then racism. While the first is understandable, the second certainly needs to be challenged.

The incident proves that we Indians respect others but it does not mean that anyone can take us for granted. Cheers Shilpa!

Racisim vs killing
by saurabh shekhar on Jan 19, 2007 07:32 PM

Though i am least concerned.. but the fact of the matter is tht shilpa is getting 700,000 USD for this and she always knew such things happen in shows.. so let it be considered as yet another happening.. coz in india much more things are happening like nithari killings, ulfa attacks ... and all we care is Shilpa's publicity.. i am sure she must have had experiences worst than this one... ! jeez cummon..

load of rubbish

I think shilpa shetty went into the show with her eyes open and knew what she was getting in for.Being a professional she did it for the money($350000 I believe)the like of it which she has never earned from a single movie or a show abroad in her life.If she resented the attitude of the other members she should have left keeping her self-respect intact. But the manner in which the issue has been blown out of proportion seems to have done her career a world of good. This just goes to show how wretched are these actresses who would sell their self-respect for a few bobs.SHAME ON THEM !!! faugh !!!

William perhaps you know

c grade british celebrities are not equal to
a grade bolly wood heroines who probably are heaps richer than them if you know they do concerts and shows abroad for the indian community which matches western scale of profits. Lastly she has maintained her dignity, i would like to say how would you feel if she came to an indian reality show and people mocked her accent and her ability to speak just one language english. I hope you get the point.
Stop trying to protect your own. Stand for what is right . Indians stand for what is right we don't just protect out own because they are indian.

Well collins, Whatever your analysis, British are the most racist in the world ! Thats one reason why even universities in UK are seeing a lot of drop in registration of international students on the other hand australia and USA are seeing surge of international students this is one example. Let it be for the money itself that shilpa attended the show but RACISM HAS NO PLACE IN THIS WORLD , I think its hight time british leave thier national icon bull dog and become more civilized and wellbehaved like a st.bernard

publicity?
by Edna Moses on Jan 19, 2007 07:06 PM

its quite difficult to say if this is all an act. it all looks too real to me. Do you think a British television would put up an act just to increase the number of people viewing it while putting the image of England on the line? Danielle has lost a contract and Jade faces similar consequences, and most Britishers refer to them as the "wicked witches". I dont think I would be wanted to be paid or put up an act that would lead to my image or my country's image being tarnished.
