His methods may have been crude and meant to shock people and awaken their sense of outrage, but Periyar is the architect of the civil rights movement in India. Like all Civil Rights leaders the world over, he was vilified by the ruling/privilege classes but over time, his contributions will be recognized and the movie is I think a good start. I can confidently say, that if it was not for Periyar, the downtrodden would never have been able o rise to this level in modern Inia, atleast in South India.
Born to rich merchant, creamy layer as for the present day. Why is he called Father Periyar , probably a reason for his tirade with pagan gods. WD wrote on the role of missionaries in Last Mughal. He must write another one called the " The First Dravidian". May discover , why the title Father. I know his followers will come up with all sorts rejoinders and interpretation. Did not our historians sleep over the archives till WD shook their bastion with the " The Last Mughal" . Gajanan
Periyar, a 'rationalist, social reformer', who 'raised his voice' against 'many social evils like casteism, untouchability, orthodoxy, superstition and exploitation of women', but has two wives...now this is hypocrycy. Even the 'great' telugu revolutionary poet 'Sri Sri' talks abt above issues and still has two wives.....what a joke!!
I am sure the quality of music would have the spineless Tamils raving about the movie. If the moviemaker wanted to truely portray EVR, he should have included a fast beat song with the lyrics "adi seruppaala adi" (slap with the slippers !) to picturize the procession that EVR and his goonda followers took , with Hindu gods garlanded with sandals.
It makes me sick that the DMK govt will spend 80 lakhs of tax payers money to fund a movie that glorifies someone who (albeit having some laudable reformist ideas) basically laid the foundation for caste hatred and castist politics in Tamilnadu.
The filmmaker, who is very talented no doubt, managed to highlight Bharati's anti-brahminism disproportionately (but I went ahead and bought the VCD to support the filmmaker) he is going to have field day with this movie !!!
I request all Hindus to boycott this movie and also laud Ilayaraja for pulling out !!

Hey man.. Dont go howling saying all Hindus should boycott this movie.. Without Periyar there would not have been so much of awareness at all levels in Tamilnadu. That is why Tamilnadu is unique.. We dont call anyone by their caste names like Mr.Rao, Mr.Reddy, Mr.Nair, Mr.Banerjee, Mr.Chaterjee and so on.. like rest of India We dont even showcase our caste names along with our names. we r not bothered if around 2-5% of the population doesnt like him. He didnt plant in our caste hatred which has deep roots in our so called Hindu society for the past 2000 years. Can you tell me frankly aren\'t u identified by ur caste (everyone in this indian society has caste in his minds atleast expressed during their selection of bride/ bridegrooms for marriage). He worked throughout his life to remove this tragedy.. Dont spit venom wihtout knowing or pretend to act smart. If somone has all the rights to burn Ravan\'s idol.. then some one else also has the rights to burn Rama\'s effigy or break Ganapthy\'s idols..

this is a fantastic movie. we tamil people are eagarly waiting to see this movie. Kalaigar has earned a very good name by providing fund to this movie. As somebody told they could have included a song to say 'slap gods with slippers'. i hope atleast they will show this scene in movie(ha ha ha).
Nobody should miss this movie. i am planning to invite all my friends and relatives to see this movie. will make everything to make this movie as a super hit.

Dravida politics is a sincere and genuine following of the Hitler and Goebbel philosophy. You have to only change the community involved from "Jews" to "Brahmins". As proposed by Mr H & Mr G "Periyar" the "Hitler of India" , Preached ,practiced implemented nothing but Brahmin hatred ,Brahmin hatred and more Brahmin hatred
For each and every problem the "Dravida" people faced the cause is "Brahminsm" and solution is "Brahmin hatred" This is the same philosophy applied by "Hitler & Goebbel" on "Jews"
Brahmins only preached peace praticed "vegetarianism" "abstained from drinking" "Smoking" and practice of bigamy or polygamy. This was not acceptable to the Dravida leaders who had all these vices.
So they wanted to change the the entire social image.And they did this successfully by making fun of all "Brahmin Mannerisms". So an entire generation of Dravida people have now developed who feel it is the greatest thing on earth to eat "Non vegetarian" food , if you dont have vices like "Smoking" "Drinking" or "womanising" you are not a "MAN" (maybe "WOMEN also").
This is the Politics of "Periyar-the Indian Hitler" and this is the "Pagutharrivu-(Supposed to Rationalist philosophy) and this is the background of Karunanidhi
I agree of course some cranky Brahmins also got swayed by these philosophies and started to behave like the "Dravida leaders".These constitutes a miniscule minority of less than 5 %.
But ultimately the truth will never change - What is right will never become wrong

I DONT THINK PERIYAR WAS HITLER RATHER I WOULD SUGGEST THE NAZI PARTY OF INDIA ARE RSS,BHAJRANGDAL,SHIVSENA,BJP,VHP,SANG PARIVAR. THIS ARE THE PEAPLE WHO OPENLY WORSHIP HITLER AND ADVACATE HIS METHOD OF FINEL SOLUTIONS AGAINST JEWS.AND THEY ALSO FOLLOW IT EXAMPLE-BOMBAY RIOTS GUJARAT RIOTS BURNING ALIVE OF FATHER STAINS.WOW THEYE HAVE EVEN SURPASSED HITLER WHERE AS PERIYAR IS NO WHERE NEARE THESE RECORDS.
