The gist of this article is - "Even a literate Muslim condones the acts of aggression perpetrated by a fellow muslim against non-muslim." 66% Ugandans are Christians who were ruled by a Muslim dictator then. Of the 3 lakh people massacred by him a majority were non-muslims. Yet this Mamdani justifies the Idi Amin's rule because he pushed away the Indians. What about the loss of lives, the destruction of economy, the bad press of Uganda, attack by Jews on the Entebbe.

I am surprised that Ms. Nair is still the wife of this beast Mamdani.

Dear Ram,
Are you sure Mira Nair directed the movie "Earth"?As far as i know, its Deepa Mehta. Can you take back the statements? You commented those in a sense, like you were desperate to say something against Mira Nair.
I hope you will update your GK with the above info, and please dont try to put wrong informations in public forums, because there are lots of fools in our country who take these as true and comment on that.

Mahmood didnt glorify this man, he plainly showed one positive aspect of this man that is highlighted above. I am sure he also told Forest about the cruelty of this man. I have spoken to ex-Ugandan Indians living in UK and they all say how Indians in Uganda treated the blacks worse than Apartheid. Well, they deserved to be kicked out. We shouldn't think that the Indians who lived in Uganda were all good people. There is lots of articles in BBC on how the later generation Indians talk about how their forefathers treated the blacks in Uganda.

Indians also controlled the urban economies of Kenya and Tanzania - not surprising when the native people had been stone-age hunter-gatherers, nomadic pastoralists and agriculturists until the British colonised the interior; the coastal areas had urban civilization due to Arabs, Indians, etc. for millenia - yet they did not use the drastic measures employed by Idi Amin.

Mamdani is a muslim apologist and refuses to accept the truth that Idi Amin destroyed the richest country in East Africa - it remains backward today after over 25 years since Amin was ousted!

buddy, from my experience here in the US and elsewhere, I can tell u, we Indians are some of the most "racist" people in the world! we come to the US for better oppurtunities and we go around giving names to people belonging to every other race - and back home, we do the same anyway! overall, except for a false sense of pride, we dont endeavor to do much in any field/profession, but have a racist attitude that sucks bigtime

Mystery solved
by Sharath Shivashankar on Mar 01, 2007 01:27 AM  | Hide replies

Ah! Now it makes sense to me. I did not know Mira Nair is married to a Mahmood Mamdani. What a wonderful couple! One of them defends islamic fundamentalism and the other denigrates Hinduism. Would Mira consider making a movie that highlights the violence and injustice that sharia laws dispense? How it treats women? That would be fair, but, I suppose she enjoys being a hypocrite.

I think you confused 'Mira Nair' with 'Deepa Mehta'.

Mira Nair made 'Missisippi Masala', 'Kamasutra' and 'Monsoon Wedding'. She makes good films.

Deepa Mehta on the other hand is just into politics, into making some stupid controversial movies... a hindu basher basically.

Mr. Sharath, Dont mislead people by writing some nonsense... Mahmood Mamdani has never supported Islamic fundamentalism. And which film of Mira have u seen where she denigrated Hinduism? Just because rediff alows u to put your comments here, it doesnt mean that u can write any non-sense...

Indians are incapable of 'treating' anyone 'bad'..simply bcuz they are too damn cowardly and disunited even to try that..if Indians planned to treat any community bad they would utterly fail and be on the receiving end...You hardly see any Indian gangs worth mentioning in US or UK...whether Indians are racist in a passive way is immaterial..the fact is Indians do respect the law of the land..you dont go nitpicking what a particular person thinks in his mind as long as he doesnt act upon it...to even talk remotely positive about Idi Amin is wrong...we know what sort of people admire Idi dada..remember he sought and was given asylum in Saudi Arabia...well no wonder !!!

what you say is ....well plain crap. There was a lot of corruption in Uganda and these corruption was done by Indians.

On another note, not giving someone water because of their caste or race is not illegal but doesnt make it immoral. So Indians do treat people badly but within the confines of the law. Thats immoral. Just because Idi Amin was cruel and was given asylum in Saudi Arabia doesn't absolve Ugandan Indians of their apartheid like action. Dont fool yourself.

why do u want to look for Indian gangs in US and UK? There are enough in India... U can judge whether anyone is racist or not by the way they treat foreigners in their country. Here we always welcome white skinned people... But we will treat a black the same way Americans or Britons or Australians do (may be even worse)... so we dont have any rights to talk abt racism...

You guys tend to miss the bigger picture...If Indians were 'racist' per se, India would not have been the only country in the subcontinent to be based upon modern principles of justice & secularism. The founding fathers of India did not confront any stiff opposition when they adopted those principles. On the other hand look no further than our neighbors and you will see the kind of bigotted laws they have adopted...the genocide of Hindus and Bengalis by Pakis in 1971..the espousing of jihadi elements that rock the world today are all spinoffs of fascist & religious supremacist mentality. Indians on the other hand do have problems of nuisance value like castism etc..but you will find that there is little or no opposition to reform. Indians by and large are extremely accomodating people..and no we dont treat black people bad at all..indeed the most popular Hindu god Krishna is pitch black. Enough said.

Just because some people belong to uneducated clans whose family culture is racist does not mean you can tar all Indians with the same brush!
