RE:Why do only has beens come to India?

Hi Manoj,
We can expect more groups to come in if we manage to do 2 things -
1. Make it a good value proposition for these artistes by reducing / exempting taxes to boost ticket sales and hence enhance revenues
2. Ensure that our politician / moral brigade filled with people like Sriram (who has given his 'views' below) are made to shut up and mind their own business!

Aerosmith are not 'has been'...they are still rocking and will continue to do so...they have been doing it for decades now unlike jlo, etc.
Dear Friends, These people come to India and we people watch them with awe. Think about it. We spend so much to hear their music. Their music is no where in comparison to the music culture and tradition we have. We spend in thousands to hear them, but we are unable to hear the cry of our neighbors and dear one. These people pocket all the collection and they go to next city. While India has been under centuries of western and mughal periods, we have never lost our music tradition. It is because of the quality of our music and people who sung it. Now, we are going after western music wanting to shake our body and head for few hours and we say we are feeling relaxed.

Sriram, You sound like a cheap politician with your armchair patriotism. I'm not much into Aerosmith these days but I hope more bands visit India. I'd love to see metal bands like Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth, etc. but it seems a far cry right now. But I hope they'll come some day.

Dear Sriram,
Even Indian artists perform outside India and they are appreciated by non Indians. Guess whats the difference?. No one there goes to forums and whines like you just did asking 'why are we listening to Indians when we have lots of musicians around". Learn to appreciate and respect other cultures. What is music to one might be just loud noise to another. If you say "Their music is no where in comparison to the music culture and tradition we have", that is just your opinion.
btb this is also western music -

Dude! From which rat hole did you spring from? We are Indians and we have absorbed everything that the world has to offer. Inspite of the richness of our culture we still can absorb good music from other parts of the world. Who do think gave a grammy to Ravi Shankar? You?If they can listen to us why cant we enjoy good music from them? Its not about whats good or bad it about what is enjoyable. I love Aerosmith so i listen to it and I love Kishore too and i listen to that too. My advice to you is not to read articles which you cant digest and pass bad air(gas)! SHOOOO! Go back to the rat hole!Or i will set the cat on you!!

im from the states and have seen sonu nigam and other indian artists perform here, but thank god people here appreciate other cultures. I enjoyed the show. What if someone from another part of the world were to talk about indian artists like this? Is this what being a patriot is about?

I can just feel sorry for you - you miserable soul...If you do not like western music..then I would love to know why you even opened an article which said "Aerosmith". Dont tell me that you thought this was Lata Mangeshkar's distant cousin!
And heyy if you are concerned bout people crying and the misery around you...I would like to know what have you done about it? Have you in your capacity even tried to spend an hour with a street kid to educate? Have you ever spent a day with a cancer patient or at a home for elderly and tried to make them feel better?
Stop making senseless useless remarks you loser! If you are not interested or cant afford to go for the show stop crying you wretch!

There is nothing wrong listening to Western music. Anything that is soothing to the ears and touches your heart and soul is good music.Listening to western music does not make you any less Indian or less compassionate and caring. In fact, music is enriched by cross-cultural exchanges.

Poor sriram...would be thinking why did he make such a comment...can't pity on you also but, because you make no sense when you write like that... just learn to acknowledge music without boundaries if not appreciate... i am no great shake fan of english music but songs like country road really hits me where even a pankaj udhas or jagjith singh can't take us.... it is good to love your own music but it is better to appreciate others too... grow up sriram...

More on a rationalnote. The no. of shows foreign artists have made in India is not more than 10 for the last 15 months. big ticket Indian artists have made more than 100 performances outside India. This brings in much more FOREX. Also movies like Swades, KANK, KHNH, DDLJ, Laggan etc. would have made equivalent money in foreign. So overall it is a big profit game. Now about culture and tradition: Please do not use internet and mobile if you think culture can be washed out by meer shows. Culture is a dharovar of 1000s of year and it cannot be washed out. I still leave with my parents after getting married respect them and do not smoke near them. So get your fundamentals right about culture. We all need deeper reading
Their hit single "Dream on" surely is the most inspirational song ever. I always hear it when i am down and out (Also the soundtrack for the Movie MIRACLE)...CHECK THIS OUT....
Every time I look in the mirror All these lines on my face getting clearer The past is gone It goes by, like dusk to dawn Isn't that the way Everybody's got their dues in life to pay
Yeah, I know nobody knows where it comes and where it goes I know it's everybody's sin You got to lose to know how to win
Half my life is in books' written pages Lived and learned from fools and from sages You know it's true All the things come back to you
Sing with me, sing for the year Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears Sing with me, if it's just for today Maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you away
Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year sing for the laughter, sing for the tear sing with me, if it's just for today Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream until your dreams come true Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream until your dream comes through Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream On Dream On
Sing with me, sing for the year sing for the laughter, sing for the tear sing with me, if it's just for today Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away Sing with me, sing for the year sing for the laughter, sing for the tear Sing with me, if it's just for today Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away......

Mr. Mayank,
India is a place where performing arts have reached culminating points. We have such great musicians who have spend their entire life practising music and rendering soulful music. Compared to that this is not music it is juct loud noise. Give a test for yourself. Visit both performances. Take up a check up. You will find that this loud blare of nonsense would have made your heart abnormal, your ears deaf, and you would end up tensed. Where you find Hindustani or carnatic music helps you attain a relaxed state of mind.
