Glamour would be an intresting view by widow
by biz Narayan on Feb 26, 2007 09:15 AM  | Hide replies

Kama of some people that changes husbands according to current standards, a qhole lot of others are fascinated at this intresting phenomena going towards one-night husbands, A woman judged by number of pervert and temporal attractions she can draw onto himself, still discontented, and going strong at that.... taking a cigar and god knows even liquor.... let deepa say she understands these perversions ....

The content is not exmplefied by changing beds every fortnight. Deepa's target is millions hooked to lost romance, An woman unpampered by Salman Khan like hero is useless, where the use is fale glamour on red carpets.

For people who suddenly land in Varanasi :
1- Shaving head would be part of a particular math, mataji type... renunciation. They have less money that NGOs and hence places would be poorly maintained.

2- Many religious orders have dress codes, lether of massacred innocent calfs is not the only way. Go to delhi and find these cruel women carrying leather for fashion. Aren't these women cruel and shallow ?

As far as point 1 is concerned, the whole point is, why do such places exist? Why don't the widows continue to live with their inlaws, parents, sons, daugthers? Trust me, not all of them are orphaned once the husband passed away. Most of them have families and relatives who actually abandon them.

And point 2. Where did 'leather' come from? I am a proud PETA member and agree that wearing skin is cruel. So, if women, and in fact more men (shoes and belts) wear leather in delhi and practice cruelty in Delhi,so we shud be cruel to widows ? Where is the logic here?

All religions have their cons. So we cover up ours by pointing fingers at the other religions. Ok , muslims force their women to wear burkhas so we will make our women wear whilte. Nice, makes perfect sense, Mr biz.

All the people here who are critisizing Deepa Mehta for wrongly potraying the India and her culture, I would like to know, where do you live and when was the last time you were at Varanasi? There are vivdhwa ashrams there, even today. The vidhwas have to shave their head and wear nothing other than white. And NO, they do NOT do not have a choice in this. For all those very hurt by Water, I wonder what you are doing to make the state of widows better ? Does not the fact that it is still prevalent today a bigger shame than the fact that some one made a movie about it.

I used to meet one mataji ( bald head) on every morning. For intruders like myself, she was kind of custodian of a flower garden, she wouldn't deny flowers to others, but we wouldn't go floweless on the days of competition if she liked us.

These were normal people, we wouldn't find these as normal anymore because so much has changed around these traditional places...The children gets up at 7 oclock or late if it is a holiday. There is active industry against rituals. Poets write how flowers should be offered to beutiful girls and they sell flowers in the evening or in nights.

Everybody sane person gives up their choices..there are new words for fixations, euphoric ones too.We could discuss these words.

You might have met a widow here and there who might have been really nice, caring and loving people. Good for you. And I agree that people give up things all the time. But they are not forced to. These widows are THROWN out of their homes, they did not ask to leave, and are FORCED to shave their heads. What part of that do you not get? They are blamed for their husbands deaths, and some of them are really young.

What do you mean by 'There is active industry against rituals' ? You mean that all rituals are unquestionable? You would have probably been a supporter of widows burning on the pyres a century ago, or if you were a muslim I guess you wud have been all for the purdah system because it is an ancient ritual??

It is obvious that she has to justify her decision to leave such a 'devilish' culture and adopt to her new ways. How can she appreciate the things she has abondoned? On top of that she gets fame and accolades for beaching about her 'own' kind - like this other gentleman has indicated. Even though there are definite evils in many of our customes, the ideas propogated by the Birtish Masters and enhanced by the Marxists are hard to get rid off. What independence are we talking about - we are still slavish in our thoughts.

That old hag will never make a movie on "Air". A great idea would be to make it on Bhopal Gas Tragedy (poisonous 'air' killing people). Then she can claim to have made one movie each on Air, Water, Fire and Earth. But she will never make it as she cannot take the side of Indians against white people. She is one miserable woman who denounces her own kind.

It takes a particular kind of bravery to denounce your own kind.. It is always easier to denounce the "others".
Only when you can see your own mistakes you can correct them.
People who believe that their country is the best in the world (simply because they were born in it) are useless to improve their country.

Jerome,
The widows that she shows with complete disrepect, the widows with which deepa celebrates her human sympathy were on a path to denounce themselves. Did deepa say that ? Would canadian leftists have paid a single money to deepa ?

If deepa is daughter of anglicized british indian, then Gandhi and renounciation migyt have been true fascination. But she shouldn;t offend mother India or the widows, Fire that could burn the world, water that could bless the country may have been with these widows who left the fore, who left the water as it is.

Let deepa celebrate them by bowing before these ladies, not by bowing before pervert images!

She claims Lisa to be PURE
by animesh kumar on Feb 23, 2007 02:22 AM  | Hide replies

LOL! Lisa is well known for topless photos and bikini shots. And now this woman, aka, Deepa Mehta, is claiming Lisa had all the qualities of innocence and purity she needed.

If hypocrites like these make a movie, God knows what the movie would be like.

I am happy that "a fraction of people" didn't let the movie happen in Varanasi. There are 1000s of good things in Hindus while 10s of evils. wonder why these pseudo-directors are hell-bent on showing those 10s instead of those 1000s.

So how will you feel if I make a movie that Vatican's pope is having sex with Madonna?

Freedom does not means liberty to show arbitary ideas. Shame on such freedom.

Dude, every country has issues with conroversial films.. movies like 'scarface' and 'the last temptation of christ' were banned in even some places in the United States. I dont know where u're from, but it's not that "ppl in India" are not free to make movies. I agree with u that ppl shud be allowed to film watever the hell they want. After all, who is FORCING anyone to watch. But the problem is not an Indian one.

Rubbish information. Sei Samaya is a novel written by Sunil Gangopadhyay on the 19th century Bengal Reneissance...it is about the life and work of Social Reformers like Iswarchandra Vidyasagar and Naveenchandra Sen who encourage remarriage of child widows in the hindu society. I havent seen Water, but I cannot connect any part I have heard about it with the novel.

Deepa - Gutter inspector and not gandhian
by kp kp on Feb 21, 2007 01:50 AM

Gandhi used to decry distorted missionary propaganda that dug dirt from underbelly of Hindu society. He called them gutter inspectors. Deepa, married to a Canadian Christian missionary, is no better. She goes back 75 yrs in time, to one fictional widow-house in one city to paint a sweeping over-generalized canvas of hindu society for western consumption. What else has she done for India, for windows but exploit them for her fame? What has she done for her own estranged daughter?

Make anti-hindu movie and claim its pro-life

"It's not about being anti-Hindu; it's about being pro-life."
Check the above statement. Does she mean to say "Its anti-hindu, but pro-life". What is pro-life? Can she answer it.

hinduism has nothing to do with pro-life.

Pro-life as a concept cuts across various socio-religious beliefs. Pro-life means anti-abortion, anti-capital execution, universal & uniform civil rights.

I dont see how pro-life is being judged as being anti-hindu because there is nothing even remotely connecting these two concepts.

Canadian leftists support terrorism!
by biz Narayan on Feb 20, 2007 12:10 PM  | Hide replies

It took me long long years to understand the support of Canadian leftists to Khalisthani terrorism. Canadians support maoist terrorism too !

Deepa Meheta is a broker who is ready to sell some slander....She takes sublime from India, converts it to hate so that people can kill more Indians ( see this message board), and earns appalause of londonisthan and canadians.

Jovita:

It is Deepa who brought her religious intolerance into the media. You didn't ask her about it because it was on Hindu. But now you ask Jay since he brings out bad things in Xianity.

We all love to point fingers at others, including you and Deepa. but we all hate when others point fingers to use, including Deepa and you.

Sorry... I have'nt seen the movie so I cant say whether it was religious intolerance. I meant the fact that Jay has given links etc about catholic nuns etc. And FYI i am an atheist... I meant the statement as "No point in pointing out the bad things in other religions to show one religion is good".. Not because I am offended by the comment against christainity.. :)

Actually Jovita, I used your name to guess Xianity. Sorry about that.

Back to the topic, Deepa Mehta is not showing religious intolerance --- rather she is misusing religious tolerance of Hindu masses. A few revolt, and it is in good spirit --- I feel. There should be some revolt against useless accuses of free or profit-making media.

oscar?
by Sanjitarani Santra on Feb 20, 2007 11:17 AM  | Hide replies

I have seen the movie, not a great movie at all, it is neither artistic or a great documentary, the cast is poor,Lisa is too sophisticated to look a helpless widow in it,her acting is lifeless as well as john's. Story is very weak too.A young man is fascinated by the beauty of the young widow and when she dies he leaves the city(he is not at all interested in actual widow problems),does not make any impact on you story wise or narration wise. The only artist I liked in it is the small girl in it,she did great job, yah.Movie certainly does not come under oscar category but India is always famous for sending wrong movie for nomination. I really admit that we are far behind making real oscar standard movies. Ya however there are few movies have been made in India in past, by Ray,Ghatak,Palekar(movie 'Ankahee' and the recent one 'paheli' are like heaven and hell however,I dont know why people degrade) and few more people. Our selection board is always faulty who always fails to send right movie. And then yes we also dont make good movie here. Not great movies. And if Deepa says Gandhi is main hero n her movie then may be it is her feeling but she must watch Munna bhai II.

Thanks Abhisek and Bijayakrishnan for correcting, sorry for wrong info here,my job is not to handle camera, but I have enough ability to analyse a movie.Understand a movie. If I will make move as good as her then better I wont make any movie for heaven's sake. Please also refer to other's comments for why and for how many reasons they dont like (hate) this movie here itself,I just gave a professional and neutral review of mine however.watch few moview: Akaler snadhane, pather panchali , bandit queen, ankahee, sadgatee and compare...compare the story, the way of narration, acting, and the overall impact of the movie on viewer.

I agree with Sanjit;

Come on people, he made a small mistake and that's what you could see? His points are valid --- the casts are dumb and un-emotional, the hero does nothing for the sake of his love, makes no attempt to justify or improve the system.

GMAB.

Watch Aashirvaad (old time ashok kumar's movie) if you really want to see a person fighting against (Hindu) injustice. It's not that Hindus only had a good system, but the point is where is perfection in this world?
