All about this!
by Anirudha on Feb 19, 2007 03:18 AM  | Hide replies

Guys,

I totally agree with the people who are against putting news to wish Saif Ali Khan to get well soon. But its not only rediff that is doing this. There are many more internet websites that do so. I think that this is real crap. These actors are not Gods.

REDIFF.. just dont do this from now on.. you can see that there are several ppl who have already talked against you and there are many more, I bet, who havent commented here but they dont like to have a trivial news like "Chest pain to Saif Ali Khan" as a headline..

Anirudha, Why dont you go to CNN/BBC/MSNBC website to see all the serious happenings in the world. Rediff is not a serious news site.

They should post whatever invites more clicks to the website period.

Thanks, Vikky

There's this person called Anna Nicole Smith in the US who passed away recently. She was a playboy model.

Every channel in the US was saturated with stories only about her. They ran 1 hour specials on her without commercial breaks, even. She was not even a popular figure.

Mr. Khan is a popular actor. Lots of people idolise him. Putting him on top is not such a bad deal. Lots of people are concerned about him.

Plus, people ARE interested in these things. That's why rediff, NDTV and other news Outfits are making it their number 1 story. If people were not interested ... the ratings would go down. And ratings going down is a terrible thing for any news organization.

last i checked, "news" was anything that a sizable percentage of an audience would want to be alerted about. the structure of any successful news portal is such that it displays hyperlinks to material that allow users to freely select material that interest them. saif ali khan is a popular indian actor. i do not understand what the hoopla is about. users who are ambivalent to this news item can ignore it, and click on other hyperlinks that interest them. when amitabh bacchan, and the lesser known south indian actor, vikram, were admitted to an hospital for treatment, i did not see comments asking that such material not be posted. the revulsion displayed in these comments under the guise of irrelevance is really only because he belongs to a minority community. as such, this behavior speaks to a very insecure, intolerant, racist mindset that no explanation can mend. i apologize if i concluded incorrectly and would appreciate any thoughtful insights that would directly contradict any element of my conclusion.

Not expected of Rediff

We Indian residing abroad, consider Rediff a responsible portal. It was not expected of Rediff to put such a trivial news item as headline. It will only dilute the gravity of Rediff which it enjoys today.

Mr desoza
We love to read Indian news on Rediff that's why we could not digest this news item. We also know about other news sites. You dont need to tell us. People react only react when something happens which is not expected. This news won't be critisized if had been in Movie section.

Mr vineet,
Looks like you don't like Indian Movies and actors. You prefer serious news.
I am sure you recognized from the headlin itself, that this is a movie related news. You could have skipped this news.
But you did not skip. Instead you decided to read the Headline, whole news item and also decided to use your valuable time inparticipating in the Forum by submitting your thoughtful observation that this news should have been in "movie" section and you can't digest this!!!
Give us a break man!

absolutely mr. dsouza. i was under the very same wrong impression when i first started out. i thought rediff was a serious news page. but now i know better and it doesnt bother me too much. i read stuff for 'time-pass' nowadays. moreover, since i thought it was a serious news page, i was initially shell shocked reading the message boards in particular..which kind of represents a warped picture of our country's standard. good to know a clarification like yours.
