Carlos Santana was the man who made D.T.famous.Hear the alltime classic 'Caravanserai' and 'Swing of Delight' by Carlos which has indian influence written all over and before Carlos The Mahavishnu Band.So indian influence will always attract great musicians especiallt guitarists.

Great review. I enjoyed reading it. I'm a middle aged white guy from Minnesota and have been listening to Derek Trucks for 7 years. Because of listening to his music, which incorporates so many different styles, I have also expanded the music I listen to, including Hindustani.
Because of what I heard in Derek's music, I now count myself a fan of Ali Akbar Khan, Ravi Shankar, Zakir Hussain, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and others. It's really not surprising when you think of it though. Derek Trucks plays with the kind of passion and depth that you also hear in Hindustani music.
When one opens their ears, and lets the music in, it can be surprising what one hears.
I really love your review and I agree with every word. I've been a massive Eric Clapton fan since I was a child, esp. because he was involved with George Harrison and Bob Dylan's CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH. And Derek was/is Eric's back-up guitar-god thru Eric's current concert tour, along with the great lefty Doyle Bramhall III. I am totally amazed by Derek!! What you said about felling warm inside from listening to him, is spot on!! Derek's concert is on dvd and I've got it and I've run it at least a dozen times and still get all happy listening to it, each and every time!
First of all, I will get his albums ASAP, it really sounds like a legend in the making.
Anyways, Sumit, I like you way of writing, its pretty unorthodox, different from what normally Indians tend to write. Keep it up, I guess a little New York has seeped into you.

Hello, Doo Moo, my name is Ishraq, and I'm from Ohio, but with parents who came from Bengal. I wrote the post about loving Derek's dvd, above, but the website didn't include my id with my posting. Derek's latest album is named SONGLINES, and Derek's dvd for the same tour Sumit is talking about was recorded in Chicago in January 2006, and is called SONGLINES LIVE. It's like Heaven's ether flows thru Derek's fingers and the rest of the band's great, too! Good luck in finding it, it should be around, since it's so new.
I think the Indian music almost touches ones heart, and like every other science, this science is researched deep to its roots and brought out in so many combinations, compositions, and renderings that one can only crave for more. I think we need to explore, learn, and spread the Indian culture throghout the world, as this is the culture that acts like a glue to bring in people from different cast, creed, cult, and groups together, in turn maintaining the autheticity of the individuals. We have lots to offer to the world, though the world is only contributing to the bad in terms of hatred, vulgarity, selfishness, and many such evils unheard of in our cultural ocean.
