Amitabh in DDLJ
by Anurag Sharma on Feb 09, 2007 08:53 AM  | Hide replies

ok enough srk bashing i guess. people say that they couldn't tolerate him in don. but according to me he did a descent enough job.
now let us imagine amitabh in ddlj...let us try to put a young amitabh in the role of raj. do you guys think that amitabh would have done justice to the role as beautifully as srk did? do yoou guys think that amitabh could have (when he was younger of course) potrayed the role of rahul in kuch kuch hota hai or in dil to pagal hai. could amitabh have done a darr?!!
i dont get it....why do people have to say that srk cant to amitabh...now my question is...can amitabh be srk?!! well at least srk can try and maybe even suceed in roles, amitabh essayed...but amitabh can never ever potray the roles of srk....so who is greater after all....imagine amitabh in energetic romantic roles (i repeat when he was young)....could he be as charming as srk...
i hope the people grow up really and stop comparing them...how many people compare frank sinatra from ocean's twelve with george clooney...the people of this country really need to grow up..do you guys even remember amitabh from lal badshah...what do you say about that...or bade mian, chote mian, where even govinda overshadowed him...and now talk about screen presence...!!
srk is srk and amitabh is amitabh...they are different....but srk in my personal opinion has a definite edge over amitabh as far as variety goes...

Have you seen the original DON ? It was an Amitabh film all the way ? The replica DON was a gadget and gizmo gimmickry show all the way. You are a SRK fan so you liked the movie but it was wanst liked by many and hence it was only an average success inspite of some real innovative marketing. SRK needs to watch out as hes yet to give real solo hit since 2004 while his competitors like Amir and Hritik are giving super hits once after the other.

SO far as doing a DDLJ or KKHH is concerned , have you heard of Khuddaar,Amar Akbar Anthony, Naseeb, Satte pe Satta , Mr Natwarlal , Suhaag, Hera Pheri which bring out the lighter side of the Big B ? So far as Darr is concerned , have you seen Parvana because you will see the difference between a class act from a raw amitabh and a mediocre one from a raw SRK ?

Wake up ! You havent seen much in life !

r u kidding? Amitabh did Silsila, which is considered the ultimate romantic movie of all time. have you not heard "Yeh Kahan aa gaye hum" or "Rang Barse" or seen those amazing histrionics!! AB can do everything that loser SRK can do & much much more....there is no comparison. AB is in a different league all together.

Speaking of SRK, can he do what Aamir did in Rakh or Rangeela. Or what Salman did in Judwaa or Hum Aapke Hain Kaun? When SRK can't be the best of his time, how can you compare him with the best of all time (AB)?

wake up buddy!!

Very well said Neeraj, and let us not forget Kabhi Kabhi and Muquaddar ka sikandar. Amitabh is ultimate superstar and SRK is just a mimic or a follower of Amitabh and that is why he keeps on trying to imitate Amitabh be it Don or KBC or some ads...

my dear anurag AB can't do those as u have asked for actually he need not to do because by palying a cow boy type roles one can be charming but he could never be a superstar because superstar need a different credentials which SRK does not have. this is the fact.So pls advice SRK to do the same roles.

A regular guy
by Debashri Sengupta on Feb 09, 2007 04:00 AM  | Hide replies

I have seen a lot of SRK-bashing in the recent days. I wish it were related and limited to the inane KANK role that he did last year. Unfortunately, a lot of negative comments are about the PERSON. I can only think that it is because we are sometimes unable to accept that a person, who is just like us in every way is so successful. Shahrukh has always maintained that he is an entertainer. I don't think he has EVER crossed boundaries. No court cases, no money-swindling, no associations with underworld dons or politicians (unless of course you count the courtesy relations that people in his position have to have), no tax-evasion. People weren't finding anything negative to say about him. At the same time they found it difficult to believe that a person could be so successful, without resorting to 'negative' or 'dishonest' activities. Now with his past few movies not doing 'as well as expected', people have got a chance to say anything! This is not right. Anyone from the common man on the street to the what-was-it.... 'Valmiki' organizations (never heard of those ones before!) is maligning the guy. Come on people! SRK is someone we should look upto. His grit, determination, talent (though, I wish he did more films like 'Swades'), honesty are attributes we should look up to. Don't let the 'crab mentality' stop us from praising a person when he is worth it. Let's own up to the fact that SRK rules! Yes, he still does.....else, there would not be so much being said about him. As 'Guru' says, "Jab log aapke baare mein bura kehne lage, to samjho ke kuchh theek kar rahe ho" :)

Jas L
RE:A regular guy
by Jas L on Feb 09, 2007 12:03 PM
well written. srk-bashing will always occur. there aren't many faults to find with him, and as a person he is as genuine as it gets. like u said, he's always been and maintained that he's an entertainer, and as an entertainer...he's always delivered. as a human being, he is a man that i can call one of the greats. he's attained everything on his own merit and certainly the kind of life that's worth aspiring to. we all want even just a little piece of what he has, and often, instead of appreciation...jealousy becomes the form in which that is communicated through. now...in terms of his recent films not doing well...can we all put this in perspective? all of his films have done exceptionally well if u look at the facts and figures (india and abroad). he's done different kinds of roles over the past few years or so (don, kank, paheli, swades) compared to what people call his "usual." as soon as one of his movies doesn't make as much as let's say his k3g made...people say..."move over srk...blah blah is taking the throne." but blah blah (insert any other actor's name there) has probably had maybe 1 or 2 solo hits in his career compared to the numerous hits srk has had...and i'm certain this blah blah actor will never have a baazigar/ddlj/k3g/khnh/kkhh/veer zaara/swades/don/etc to his name because he'll never be a srk. i don't need to defend srk...but i want to because he is indian cinema. without him, there may be a random dhoom-2 every so 5 years that will make people run to the theaters...but there will never be the yearly srk blockbusters that we've become so used to. like they say, u don't appreciate what u have until it's gone. and srk certainly deserves our appreciation and respect.

I noticed that when people say against Sharukh, then the moderator is happy with that, but when we report that as an abouse then he refuses. Like now, I would like to say that the moderator is behaving "like monkey" (as some people saying Sharukh is "monkey like"), and he will delete my statement now I assume.

Come on moderator, don't take a side. Try to be neutral.

i read so many messages in this column. its possible to c so many messages against shah rukh. i think the moderator is playing a little bit foul. How shah rukh became a star if people are hating him this much. more than that why quarreling in the name of celebrities? they are playing their role to survive. if a person likes X watch him if its Y watch him. why fighting for it? These X & Y are not going to come to congragulate u.
