BBY Dreams - No, no!!!
by Avinash Patalay on Feb 06, 2007 03:24 PM

BBY Dreams was a big flop - no matter what Andrew L Webber, Shekhar Kapur, Meera Syal and Farah Khan shout at the top of their lungs. At Broadway - it was a major washout.

The story was crass!!! Saving grace was ARR music.
Shilpa is standing on a pedestal at this juncture which could be a major leap and definitely BBY Dreams isn't the right stepping stone. C'mon the actors of BBY Dreams are lost in wilderness.

Shilpa's transformation
by on Feb 04, 2007 01:32 AM  | Hide replies

Now doubt Shilpa made us proud abroad and making a positive impact on west. But what is still happening in India is worst when is comes to respect others. I just want to give small example. What surprises me that this is still happening on TV?

Recently, I was watching an Indian Ad (Halls) on Indian Channel.

There are primarily two women characters in that Ad. One is a match maker and asks if she can get good alliance for the second one. The second lady (younger one) ridicules the match maker saying that the previous alliance the match maker brought had run away with house worker.

It may be a mis-match but not a laughable matter. I understand the message of the advertisement about the HALLs.

Why we need to ridicule a status of a house worker on a national TV. Is that profession so cheep? They are like janitors in other country and get the same respect as other professions. They do not receive any charity from those who hire house workers. She or he (house worker) has a job and are right fully earning money for her/his family.

Shilpa's transformation
by on Feb 03, 2007 07:38 PM

I am an Indian-American, who feels close to the Indian culture. I am very proud of the efforts of people of Indian heritage all over the world. In my view, Shilpa has transformed herself as a result of the "Big Brother" experience. In her initial introduction segment on Big Brother she stated that "her name is synonymous with glamour in India" and that she is the "Indian Angelina Jolie." It seemed a bit arrogant (insecure?) at the time. She has since forgiven her castmates for their deplorable behavior, while thanking the UK for the opportunity. To give her the benefit of the doubt, she does appear sincere in her sentiments. But her magnanimity has an additional benefit. She has become a darling of the UK and is making a positive impact on the West - more so than colleague Aishwarya a few years ago. Shilpa has become an cultural ambassador of sorts. I welcome it, because it aligns with India's steady rise and ever-increasing respect from an international perspective.

Since the events of her Big Brother experience, she has carried herself with dignity. As a result, she has become a darling of the UK. This was a brilliant move on her part, and to give her the benefit of the doubt, she does appear sincere. Good for her, I say, she is helping raise the profile of Indians abroad, which is consistent with India's ever-increasing stature.

Shilpa/Bombay Dreams

Shilpa has done more than anyone since Gandhi to arouse interest in Indian culture. She has given the Indian film industry a tremendous boost by identifying herself as a Bollywood actress. All Indians should be proud of her and wish her the best.

Making use of the Sympathy
by AA on Feb 02, 2007 08:44 PM  | Hide replies

Shilpa Claims that there is no racism in the show. I'm pretty sure she wants to get more popular with UK people and not Indians.

In an interview to Sky news yesterday, She contradicted herself with her previous statement of saying that " She represents whole India".

She said in Interview that all the views expressed in Interview are her sole and not of all Indian. So what the hell she is claiming to be Indian representative. She is just doing all these solely for MONEY and nothing else. In UK people are very much interested in this crazy news of gossips.

I dont think she will ever be successful in Bollywood movies anymore. Better stick to london and get all the money she can.
