Scorpions, you ROCK !!
by Debraj Sen on Dec 17, 2007 01:52 PM

Listening to Scorpions is like an addiction !! I remember having bought their `Gold' Album about 15 years back, but even today, it gives me goose bumps whenever i hear `Send me an Angel'(heavy, heavy vocals), `Winds of Change' (wud have loved to hear the beginning whistle notes) or ``Still loving you' (true blue `rock')..

wud have loved to be in Shillong / Mumbai / Bangalore but unfortunately could'nt make it ... but then .... hoping for the next time ....

crowd - 1/3 or less compared to the turnout for iron maiden

"Klaus Mein set the mood with his deep vocals" - klaus never has had deep vocals- it has always been in the hi-octave range

james kottak as a drummer was below par on his drum solo

"Guitarist Pawel Maciwoda had said only a day before..." - pawel plays bass not lead

"n the end, it was quite clear that even after being in the music business for 40 years..." they have been in the business for less than 40 yrs

scorpions were initially ed by Uli jon roth till the album Tokyo Tapes - he propounded the hard rock approach - and left after that.

their breakthru album - love at first sting was more in the vein of pop-party metal with ballads and power ballads that was commercially very successful at that time

To his credit, Klaus didnt seem to falter with his vocal output and that is commendable for someone who has been around for over 30 yrs

in contemporary terms, scorpions belong to that part of evolving hard rock/metal of the 70s/80s - there were hugely popular then with their trademark ballads - always somewhere, still loving you, holiday, when the smoke is going down

overall, a so-so performance, the sound was flanging at times but they have their fan following tho i did not see very many grey-haired folk or older amongst the audience

Vintage Scorpions.

Absolutely fantastic concert. They belted out rare(ly heard) numbers like the Zoo / Dynamite / Big City Nights / Blackout et al. Badly publicised - hence the low turnout. And the TOI reporter got it all wrong .. he writes that they played "You and I", which is totally untrue.

I now emerge as a (re)stung scorpions fan.
