New Breed
by vineet roy on Dec 07, 2007 12:23 PM

Anurag kashyap and sudheer mishra represent the new breed of directors who have taken cinema to new levels ,good cinema need not be a superhit as a rule ,In india with half the audiences being too naive to understand the subtelties of cinema most of the good cinema goes unrecognised and liberalisation has not helped at all ,the intellectual movement of 50's , 60's and 70's brought with them the likes of satyajit ray , bimal roy and ritwik ghatak who are legends even today ,I just hope that our next breed of directors turn out into directors like those and not the david dhawans and karan johars ,you can accuse me of being elitist but you don't find diamonds among the masses ,the best is always elite.

An Excellent Director
by Vishal on Dec 07, 2007 08:23 AM

Sudhir Mishra is an excellent director who can easily compete with the best in the world. He is not a media hyped moron like Sanjay Bhansali, Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra. Sudhir is so humble and down to earth. Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi is an epic masterpiece and was a billion times superior to the manipulative Black.

3 main kinds
by Vinay Joshi on Dec 06, 2007 03:21 PM  | Hide replies

There are 3 main kinds of film makers - too arty, too commercial and the balanced. Others are somewhere in between the three. So a Sudhir Mishra or Anurag kashyap is too arty, David Dhawan is too commercial, while a Farhan Akhtar perfectly blends as the balanced. Audiences take a pick at what they want to watch. Being the balanced director is the most difficult job. The other two kinds are easy. So you have to give credit to people like Farhan, Ashutosh Gowariker, Rajkumar Hirani, Ram Gopal Verma, etc.

If the arty kinds wail that the audiences dont flock to the theatres to watch their cinema, please realize that there is a select audience for select cinema. If you are sure that the audience will be limited, take actors from acting schools/theatres and basically reduce cost. Dont spend much. Only when you are making a mass movie, spend as much! Simple no?!

I like your sarcasm! Anyone who watched the sholay remake would want to throw up. What's with the new horrible actress that he uses these days. Any movie she is in will be a flop as she cant act Plus lets not spoils this great interview by taking about RGV.
