A Festival of Flops!

By Moviebuzz | Monday, 03 September , 2007, 09:12

A week after Onam, the big festival season in Kerala, the Malayalam film industry is still reeling under it's biggest ever drubbing in history! There has never been such a disastrous Onam, as all the four releases have turned out to be damp squibs at the Kerala box-office.
Take a look- Ali Bhai, Ore Kadal, Kitchamani MBA and Nivediyam are colossal flops, which are unlikely to recover their combined cost of approximately Rs 10 Crore! Except Ali Bhai, all the other releases were 'hold over' (a trade term for a film which falls below the normal accepted collection figure) on the opening day!

In Ernakulam, Kerala's highest collecting centre, on Thiruonam day (August 27), only King Khan's Chak De, reported 100 percent collection, 17 days after release ! Mohanlal's Hallo, on its 54th day reported 75 percent collection, while his Ali Bhai on its 12th day could get only 55 percent! The other three Onam releases, theatres refused to give the figures, as it would be embarrassing for their makers.

What went wrong? First and foremost the traditional form of entertainment cinema viewing during Onam festival days has come down. Only die hard movie fans visit the theatres during the festival, the ladies and family audiences keep away. They have other forms of entertainment like round the clock film based and comedy shows on a dozen television channels!

The men folks boozed on liquor worth Rs 52 cro

Kichamani is ok... Performance of Suresh was good... Its far far better than Alibhai... Laletta please don't act in shaji kailas's movie.. Shaji Kailas can't create good films without Renjith or Renji Panicker...
