If thugs like Modi, Mulayam Singh, Laloo can be Chief Ministers of their states despite their treacherous backgrounds, compared to them Salman is a much better person who gets involved in charity cases etc....
Hit and run case is an offense, but Black buck killing is nothing but waste of time of everyone...thousands of animals are killed in India and no one cares..sometime even by big politicians....

ofcourse he deserves this award... 1stly because this is an award for excellance in cinema and entertainment and all of us should acknowledge his contribution to indian cinema. Secondly, the case is still on and the court has not yet declared its judgment so i don't understand that why do people pass their unwanted comments. Thirdly, we should also acknowledge his contribution to the society.. Salman Khan Trust is the biggest example.. there are many other instances where he has helped so many people in need. Words are just not enough to describe his generosity.

Frankly speaking if Suneil Shetty and John Abraham could have been former recepients of this award then why not Salman. Atleast he, unlike Suneil and John, has several movie hits to his credit. Some of the biggest hits in Bollywood have him as the actor. There is no denying his popularity amongst the masses. He is being awarded for being an actor. As regards the court cases pending against him let the law of the Land prevail. The Law is above all and will suitable punish him once found guilty.
When 'Bharath Ratna' itself is disgraced what these sundry awards like Rajiv Award etc. will mean ?. Go ahead confer this to Dawood Ibrahim and Abu Salem also.. After all they too have contributed immensely to this country... (How ?)..
In my opinion, he deserves nothing. He is a bad influence on the society with his acts.He does not deserve to be honoured for anything and for what qualities he has been choosen? He has so far had no award winning performances in any movie, so as an actor he does not deserve it. So for what,our government is choosing him for such an award? He should be put behind bars for his poaching/driving under influence/under world connection. Only when arrested he shows up with traditional muslim dresses/different religious and philosophical books to show he is a good guy and once released he is in the press for all wrong reasons. Give him the boot and put him behind bars that is the place he deserves to be.

I as well fully agree that Salman does NOT deserve such awards at all....and when u r trying to compare him in the line of the other achievers ...others will certainly feel ashamed of having such a company in line with them. To the Society these are the BAD trends, if person having such back-drop is conferred in the capital of the nation that too with the award which is carrying the name of late PM...Really disgusting to digest such episodes
That's all right. Rajiv Gandhi is still not tried for his alleged role in Anti-Sikh pogrom initiated by him and Congress party in '84, for allegedly swindling at least Rs.64 crores in Bofors scam, for being a pawn in the hands of Italian mafia and CIA... etc. etc. etc.
So, if a worm like Salman got an award named after that moron, by all means ...go for it..

perhaps sunita williams or shekhar gupta do not have the kind of qualification it takes to get this award. there are many more indians in the rank of sunita and gupta who are perhaps not 'equal' to salman khan to receive the award

I think it is more to please Rahul and Sonia as Salman is seen opposed to Mr. Bachhan family and congress think by doing this they can diminish the reputation of Bachhan family.
