she don't need to apologize
by xyzxyz on Apr 17, 2007 07:51 PM

Guys we have so many problems in India. Why don't you focus on them. Why should we look into someones personals matters. If Shilpa feels that Gere misbehaved then she can register FIR. When she don't have any problem why we are wasting our time. Wake up guys.

Big deal ! If Shilpa had no objection, who the hell is the Sena or anybody else to ?
Such narrow minded thinking, some of we Indians have. Shame.
Hats off to you Shilpa !

I am having a question to all of you.
If I do kiss your wife/sister forcefully in public place and your wife/sister accept it sportingly and refuse to apologise after,
do you all will not protest as an individual ??
Do you all will be thinking neutral in that case ??

Actually Mr. Rajesh if you knew the whole story you'd know that Gere apologised to Shilpa several times for what happened and said he didn't want " to offend indian sensibility" and didn't think it would cause such adverse reaction in india. What does Indian culture say about tolerance, forgiveness etc. Instead, people are filing a lawsuit against them. What does Indian culture say about respecting women? A lot. So why don't the shiv sainiks protest misinterpretations and the corruption of our culture occurring through- dowry murders, domestic violence and abuse of women by the husband and his relatives, and genocide of young baby girls. This has become such a problem that in some parts of india the ratio is twice number of males than females. What about misinterpretation and misuse of culture to support ill treatment of widows in some parts of india (as seen in the door film.) The Vedas, the ultimate hindu text, have never said anything for such treatment but still it continues. When the Shiv Sena protest against such things i will take them seriously. When they actively work towards changing the status quo of women in india than i will take them seriously. Till then they have no right to speak of women and protecting them.

I think Gere would have had the misfortune to see a couple of the Bollywood movies and thought this is common in India. Our heroes and heroines do more than kissing on screen and less aesthetically than anyone can imagine(wild dances, thighs of heroinesat full view on the posters). So Gere would have been trying to imitate one of our own Bollywood movie scenes to entertain the audiences.

If you want to preserve our cultural values, start housecleaning from inside out.Don't make a good foreigner a scapegoat. He was here to bring awareness about AIDS,not go around kissing women.

I may agree with you - however in that case, it is the family and people close to Shilpa who should be protesting here and not the general public. I think people in India should ignore all these and start working towards improving the nation as a whole. What benefit do we get in such protests? Are we getting rid of corruption or building geniuses with such protests? I dont think so!

If you do that Mr. Rajesh ,I am sure you would be going back with a couple of broken limbs.

But if a 58 year old man such as Richard Gere does it to a person like Shilpa Shetty who is used to such behaviour,i dont think you people like you should are even qualified enough to comment.

Who is shiv sena to act judge?
by Arun George on Apr 17, 2007 06:39 PM  | Hide replies

Let the shiv sainiks uplift aids patients and sex workers and then speak about the apology. Some nuts who have no work than peeping into the others bedroom. No person with any sense would act like them. They are the shame of the hindu community. Extremists, sadists and the scum of the modern day India.

how can a kiss in the cheek be such a problem?

why should it be limited to bedrooms..

indians are hypocrites. they dont see people going to prostitutes in private and getting hiv a problem, while kissing on the cheek in public is a big deal.

Before giving any gesture to shilpa first you see what you are. are you same like Richard first you see him and then see to your self. Don%u2019t be frustrated before saying anything you look into your home what is happening there. Who is talking kiss to whom. You people really don%u2019t have any other work to do.

Backward still having same destructive ill thinking.

Unbelieveable
by on Apr 17, 2007 06:09 PM  | Hide replies

Well done Shilpa! I am totally on your side, there is nothing to apologise for. It might have seemed "bad" because Shilpa did not know what he was doing and so it seemed that he was forcing her, but he was just playing out a sweeping old Hollywood-style pose. Thats it. Seriously you make such a big hue and cry over something so trivial, however when someone like Mallika Sherawat wears stupidly revealing clothes on occasions such as the show she did at the Marriot for New Year's Eve or what she wore for the Maxim cover shoot, no-one does anything. In fact, some people comment on it with splendour. Why are the public not burning effigies of Mallika when she does what she does? So what if she does not do it in front of a crowd, what she has done is still seen by millions. Can you imagine how this will be seen by the foreign press. Already the press in the UK and US and rolling their eyes at the reactions of the Indians when they report this news.

Seriously it is attitudes like this that is preventing India from achieving the greatness it has the potential to. It is attitudes like this that cause the Western world to continue to look at India as a Third World country, and it is attitudes like this that cause NRI's to shun their home country. Unless and until, the Indian political system and the public begin to broaden their minds, the country will not be whole-heartedly accepted on the international forum.

More important issues
by Bob Seth on Apr 17, 2007 06:03 PM  | Hide replies

Has shiv sena protested for
1) 6 hour power cuts all over mahrashtra
2) killing and raping of farmers BY CPIM In Bengal
3) When Alistair periera case was meesed up by the police
4) High property prices all over mumbai due to which no middle class and lower class can afford decent housing.
5) extensive corruption in all the govt departments in maharashtra
Shiv Sena should channelise thier energies to take up some issues which will improve the life of the common man and not get burnt out on such non issues

For your kind info Mr. Bob.Read the newspaper daily.I dont know know from where u are,but in all places in MH Shivsena is only protesting for powercuts okey.EG-Nasik-16/04/2007.
And as far as other issues are concerned they are not in scope of Shivsena like Aliester and Rapes, they has to dealt with law and police resp. And if you remeber only SS has protested aginst the latest TATA Hosp Rape case.
First clear up your knowledge and then open your mouth.okey Friend???

Mr Nikhil Agrawal - This is just a discussion forum - you dont have to get so worked up in the process. You can voice your views however in a calm tone. Shiv Sena may be protesting for powercuts but we should only be looking at the end result - is the problem of power cuts solved? If not, then their protests are just a "piece of show". I think it is for Shilpa and her close ones to protest if needed and not the general public or any political organization.
