Holy devil...a small piece of advice....I fully agree with you and hope more and more people read your views. But this wont happen if you use this kind of language. Communication is abt reaching others...so please say whatever you want to say but in a "Cleaner" and more"acceptable" language and all the people would get to read your post. With this kind of language it gets reported for abuse and finally taken off the post.
what is wrong with most of u...?? u keep saying rediff shudnt post articles like this and the funniest part is there are 500 comments on it...are we so jobless as a nation..???
its shilpa's life...she wud have kissed gere..or for that matter...XYZ...how does it matter to u or anyone...she aint ur wife..or gf or mother...her life...she wishes to leave life the way she wants...every human has a different culture..here in india most hypocrits try and force a culture on someone...but they will never follow it themselves...they will say kissing isnt allowed but they can sit at home and watch porn and wank off..!!!

u are right it is shipa life. bt she is using such big platform thn she need to take care of public & society. nobody is concerned about what she do in her close room. bt doing it in public places is definately disturbing mindset of a majority of indian. and its a open invitation to protest also. so u open display so non conservative way's always invovle high risk of retalliation.

what indian culture are we talking about? we see our rich culture on the railway tracks early in the morning! we can see our rich culture on the staircases, toilet walls and corners of public walls. is dowry part of our rich culture? is murder of a professor in public and eye witnesses turning hostile our rich culture? if kissing is not our culture what are those beutiful statues doing in holy places depicting various positions of sex?

my culture is that we have the least divorce rate in the world with only 0.6% my culture is a daughter/son will never smoke in front of father and smoke the puff on face my culture is that a son will never leave her mother for a wife my culture is that when a child is born, we will know who is the father unlike Ana Nicole smith son my culture is parents are considered second god after god my culture is that, a father will not kick their kids after 18 and ask them to live own life. They will finance in kids marriages and even support their kids after marriage myu culture is that student from harvard universities are coming to learn from aguntha chaap railway minister my culture is that we are always there for each other
Just by reffering to railway track, toliet walls .. don't spoil our name.. we are poor,, but we are going forwards... Look at the good things, that pointing flaws.. No culture is perfect. every culture has goods and bads

Every culture has good and bad . agreed. but we need to look at the bad points in our culture before raising slogans of "our culture". If our culture so fragile that it needs a moral brigade to protect it then maybe something is wrong in our culture. We need to respect another point of view also instead of thinking that whatever is happening in our culture is the best thing. We can learn a lot of things from other cultures too . And as you said no culture is perfect .

see we definitely have a rich culture. & changes are also taking place. but u cannot change the mindset of such a huge no. of people overnight. it will take decades. caz still literacy rate in india is very low. people living below poverty line is very high. here very few have time to think of western ways of living. everyone else is busy living a livelyhood. so better to behave either in traditional ways or be ready to face the reactions.
even u know Galileo was killed opposing existing ideas though he was very right.
so shilpa is nothing in comparison to many ohters who was actually for a right cause. she just want closeness to gere to get benifited.

my dear culture only comes into play for issues related to Indian women. It starts and finishes with them.The word culture is the most abused word in India today . It has become similar to the word religion where everyone talks aboutit and nobody undertands the true meaning of it. It is also our culture to not abuse and humilate a woman but if you read half the mails on this forum you will realise what our true culture is

Jyothi ... If someone jumps in well, we ppl shd not defend his act. If someone steals the other's property we shd not follow this, If someone rapes a girl we shd not treat that act as culture, Exceptions never become rules and also crimes are not meant for becoming rules, whatever in number they go on increasing. Just by quoting other crimes U cannot justify another crime. CRIME is Crime, where U accept or give logical blindness towards it. My advice Please Read SAMEER Shekh reply . And Be Indian ... Your list is impressive,but leave alone the statues of certain holy places from your criticism.If the statues have been made that way a long time ago,that sure would have been symbolic or with some higher meaning rather than to evoke sexual feelings in people.Besides there is no rule you have to go and visit those temples to see those statues.Keep away from that if it disturbs you.

first of all what was happened. watching the clipping it obvious that richard was openly invited by shipa to do it. (he don't know out culture and he did'nt cross the boundries. means didn't kiss the lips).u can c that richard was insisting getting down but shipa for the want of getting close to him kept on resisting him & finally it happened.i think richard is innocent. but i can't say same of shilpa. afterall she is trying to take advantage of international publicity caz of racism issue on big brother show. we all know shipa is beautiful but on acting skill she don't socre at all. on 10 she could hardly get 2. and fortunately she got oppurtunity to work on a B grade british show big brother. where i m sure this racism issue is delibrately raised by her & orgnisers to increse trp. i can bet she could not win it without that racism issue. because of that issue she not only got indian & asian vote but also vote from british as sympathy.
so this extinct bollywood showpiece got a new lease of life. and now she want to cash it to its fullest. since not international offer is comming caz she is almost zero on acting. so the want to use this oppurtunity to please gere & get close to him. but this not going to help her caz on acting lever she is zero. and hollywood want actors not showpieces.
So this is a publicity stunt.
And shilpa avoid quoting LORD SHIVA'S example for your safeguard.

We should not be discussing why Gere kissed shilpa or why shilpa let him. They are adults. We should be discussing the irresponsibility of the Indian Media in playing the tape again and again and sensationalising the issue. They have managed to sidetrack the most important issue - HIV. and for all those who are saying that they should not have kissed in an HIV forum maybe it is worth having 20 such kisses if it gets the public attention of what's right under their nose , that we are the biggest HIV effected country in the world . Someone should file a case against irresponsible jounalism. we expect Richard gere to respect the sentiments of Indian public, why is nobody asking why indian media has been splashing a nonsense item like this. Are they not accountable?

Right point here.. I totally agree. The media has all the reasons to keep us off-track of the issues that really matters.. be it a game like cricket or a cause like HIV. No importance is given to the root issues in our society and just licking of the money earning opportunities are sought for by these sick people. If media will give no attention to these silly protest.. no one is going to do. Because media is backing these spare ppl/party-outfits are coming on the streets.
I THINK THE BRAVE SHIV SAINIKS SHOULD BE SENT TO ORAQ AND PAKISTAN TO FIGHT FOR THE COUNTRY THEN TO KEEP FINDING FAULTS WITH INDIA'S CULTURE AND PEOPLE. GIVE ME A BREAK.
