First and formost full marks to amol palekar as usual for making a brilliant film. This movie is out and out belongs to the director. the scenses between mother daughter. father in law and daughter in law. the female protoganist and his friend any blady scence and the betrayal potrayed are fantastic.

Mirulan kulkarni is brilliant. The revealing of the male protaganist been an homosexual to each of the close associate be it father mother friend was out of the world.

Sorry to say, while the subject matter is bold and encompasses a story that hardly gets told and really should be, the quality of the film itself suffers greatly.

I was one of the lucky few at the premiere of this film screened in conjunction with Brisbane International Film Festival. While I found both Amol Palekar and Sandhya Gokhale to be highly intelligent and sensitive, the quality doesn't translate onto the screen when it comes to this movie.

Perhaps I feel this way because the version we saw was in English, while I understand that the version released in India is in Marathi. Even so, while the opening was great, the story sinks majorly soon, has a really dull pace, meanders through too many side plots, had terrible over-the-top acting, unlikeable characters, and a weak resolution. I was appalled that a maker of Palekar's calibre had made something like this. I agree it was too preachy, and it was far more preachy than this reviewer gets credit for. Some things may have been repaired through editing, but a lot of things like the acting etc could not have saved this film.

To me it was an embarrassing treatment of a very important subject matter.

RE:Abhijat Joshi's cheap shot at astrology in Lage Raho.

Astrologers say that they "understand" their science and that the people who question it dont. The ability to calculate the positions of the planets using the methods prescribed in the ancient texts is not in dispute. How these positions influence the lives of individuals is what is not understood by the people who question astrology.

The more important question is whether astrology is helping India in its struggle to create a better future its people. I am especially talking about the millions who are not able to buy for themselves the basic necessities of life and are not able to buy for their children an education that will give them a better chance in their futures.

If astrology will only provide a livelihood for a few astrologers and comfort for the wealthy who can pay for it, then it does not have much significance for India. Can astrologers help the politicians in India realize that their lives will have so much more meaning if they directed all their energies towards serving the people who have elected them in the hopes of a better future? This is probably the more important question with regard to astrology and its positive or negative impact on society.
