Shame on Modi
by Sania on Sep 12, 2006 02:47 PM

Shame on Modi and his puppets who are now resorting to such cheap gimmicks to put down somebody who has a different opinion against them. The man is a disgrace to our democracy.

Politics, not love for animals

Glad to know that Modi and his cronies in Gujarat care for the welfare of chinkaras, when they so miserably failed to protect the life of thousands of innocent citizens during the riots in that state. Gujarat still has hope !!

More to do with Modi than with Chinkaras
by Raghu on Sep 12, 2006 02:42 PM

Hitler and his brand of vendetta live on in Gujarat in the guise of Modi. This is sheer hypocrisy, and blatant intolerance. Just because Amir voiced his opinions against Narmada dam, Modi and his cronies are out to fix him. India has a black future as a democracy and tolerant society as long as Modi and the BJP are around.

CHINKARA
by sam on Sep 06, 2006 07:46 AM

It is obvious that this has nothing really to do with conservation (the chinkara have survived the last SIX YEARS quite well!) and is purely politically motivated. Surely they have more pressing issues??

As a human i care about a human who is in need of food , not an animal who is just in the forest.

The Unbelievable System!
by Sebastian Thomas, New Delhi on Sep 05, 2006 04:14 PM

The chinkara incident took place in 2000. In 2006, Aamir Khan raised his voice and concern for the affected people of the Narmada project. As a citizen, he has every right to do that. (If Medha Padkar had not taken up that issue by her heart, the farmers and others who had been affected by the project would never have received justice from the discriminatory system) These stupid people I mean it - were not happy with Aamirs stand on Narmada and therefore, they now take up the 2000 Chinkara incident as a weapon to put Aamir Khan in trouble. What were these bloody people doing during the period from 2000 to 2006? Where was their love towards animals and wild life then? I am damn sure they are neither interested in wild life nor concerned about the welfare of the ordinary citizens. It was the same behavior that we had seen when Tehelka stood against the corrupt Defence System. I had a similar experience even worse - in the past and still suffering. Is anyone there to protect them? Where is the President? Where is the Prime Minister? They talk a lot about truth and justice. But when someone genuinely moves in that direction, no one is there to protect. Are they all deaf and blind?

Aamir faces political harrasment
by Lalita.S on Sep 05, 2006 02:07 PM

It is obvious that Aamir's unwise comments on the Gujarat riots, his sympathy with the Narmada Bachao Andolan, his refusal to apologize to either Gujarat or the BJP for what they take as insult to their pride--all this is going to haunt and trouble him.As an artist he should have been more careful.Aamir's 'crime' seems insignificant when one hears so many more severe cases that go unpunished. So many filmmakers have used animals in careless fashion and they have not been prosecuted.Maneka Gandhi mentioned the camel race in Paheli, where the animals are said to have suffered due to the heat. There are other instances, other films. In the case of Lagaan,Maneka[in an article in Society magazine]spoke of the deer dying of heat exhaustion. If any action was really needed against Aamir, why suddenly after seven years?Perhaps Aamir was technically wrong getting impatient over permission, and making his own arrangements.Ironically the film gave the message of wildlife protection.I pray that this dignified star comes unscathed from this case.He is known to be a law abiding upright citizen, not a hunter and poacher or even driinker.

Chinkara Politics
by Jagan on Sep 05, 2006 02:03 PM

This is Utter politics and personal vengeance, nothing else.
It took five years for the Gujarat forest dept. to recognise that they misused Chinkara in the film.

What is the role of the Censor Board? is not this government agency? Why they didnot took action then and there, before release of the film?

This shows the intolerance of the political society in our Nation. When someone speaks against their wrong doing, then they will wakeup and start searching for the ways to take revenge.
