Don (1978) can hardly be called a classic in true sense of the term, it was at best a pacy actioner with sterling performance of Amitabh Bachchan and catchy songs for the masses. Hence the need for the much-hyped remake eludes me. who would have thought that a director as gifted as Farhan Akhtar would consider such a project dear to his heart! The ceeti bajao viewers have surely been won by this uninspired, though masaledaar, remake but Mr Akhtar need not have wasted his energy just to do that; one would have expected much more.
Yes I think this don is a better version of a previous Don as it had the advantage of correcting the flaws of the original. For. E.g. When Look-alike Don get caught and when he is jailed along with gangsters, he does tell that he was trying to fool police by saying he is Vijay and not Don where as in the original, don get nervous right from the word go. Or take another instance where body marks are to be made on Vijay to make him perfect Don which was missing in the original. THis proved to be a major high point for the film. Even take the example of recurting Roma into the gang where much better executed than the original.
This is not say that the original was bad or something wrong with it. But the point is Farhan Akhtar had taken the concept from the original Don to the very high level and he has left the scope for Part-2.
As far as acting is concerned SRK Lacked the punch of Amitabh somehere during the starting point but as the movie moves so does his acting. Infact he has shown he is versatile.Any one who could have played this character it was him. No one in the current lot can think of playing Amitabh other than him.
The new Don was just not fast paced enough like the old Don.
Sharukh Khan is always Sharukh Khan in his movies, he wasn't the Don in this one.
Sharukh didn't have the classy look and feel that Amitabh exudes.
Farhan's take on the Don is very good. He has definitely taken a different view.
In fact, if Farhan's take on Don was used in the original Don, it would probably have been an even bigger hit.
If the new Don had Amitabh itself acting in it instead of Shahrukh sans the romantic angles, etc., the new Don would be an even better hit.
Overall, I would tell anybody who has seen the original Don and wants to watch the new one that if you watch the movie after the Intermission you will enjoy it, if you got bored watching the first half and walked away, you would miss out on a good movie.
sory u guys who couldn't understand film...coz the film is awesome...and far much better than the old 1 if u compare...coz there' nothing in this like b4..i mean first hal is bit same..but other 1 is quiet diff....atlast...farhan and shahrukh...rules!!! thats all
Okay, so stop comparing Don with its olde version. I tried that...but even when I viewd Don as an original film, i didnt like it. It just does not click..there are too many loop holes...and it tends to drag..SRK as Don is watchable but SRK as Vijay is unbearable...he looks like he is acting, just unable to carry the rustic role.....
let me be honest, the new DON is leagues ahead of the old one. the old one had a lanky as well as pot-bellied Amitabh trying to play a gangster of all things opposite the ultra-svelte Zeenat. the action scenes were laughable, the plot was full of gaping holes, and casting was terrible (Pran as JJ for example). it was saved by its songs. the new film is stylish, has better casting and performances than the old one.
purane don ko match karna muskil hi nahi namumkin hey advice to all director dont try to make remake of old movies.b'coz old is always gold ,new is only sold, shahrukh u r a great actor dont sign such movies where ur fans r dissappointed.u r a king khan but amitabh is amitabh
the new don would have got positive reviews if farhan would'nt have revealed that it was a remake....plz dont compare this to the classic or plz dont compare SRK to Amitabh......the new don is a gr8 movie by itself and is worth watching many a number of times....hats off SRK...(he proved that he is the King Khan)
