As i have seen both the films but the old film show the reality and the characters has done the good job mostly Mr. Amitabh Bachchan.
As new don is also a good remake little bit change in the story that the real don remains and he became the real don. The most favourite song in this film is "Khaike Pan Banarase wala"
As compared to me both film are good in there own means.
Hi, In MGR's movie 'Kudiyirunda Koil' (Tamil), wherein he played double role of twin brothers, the elder one gets lost at an early age and joins the gangster, whos apparently his dad's killer. The gangster MGR gets hurt in a police encounter and suffers from memory loss. The police officer who spots the younger one sends him in place of elder one (gangster) to help the police get information about their acts. I dont know how far this movie had inspired the writers of 'Don'. Mr. Akhtar what's your take on this? Jai
I couldnt help but notice the striking similarity that certain sequences of "The Departed" has with our Don :) Could Martin Scorsese have watched the original DON ;)

The departed is a remake of the hongkong classic "Infernal Affairs". Don is a remake of Shammi Kapoor's China Town (Black and White). I am shocked that Javed Akhtar is claiming it as an original as the plotline of china town is identical. You are right that there are similarities between the departed and Don. My guess is that there lurks an original movie or a novel from where all these movies have been derived.
i can safely bet old DON will stand out as the better of the two.
When Javed says that Sholay shud not be remade because it is a complete picture without loose lends, he means that DON could be remade. This statement from Javed is out of PUTRAPREM ha...... ha.....
