Don remake
by Munish Ratanpal on Oct 19, 2006 10:48 AM

i think we have lost our sense of perspective here...its absurd to say that the original Don is too good to be remade. the original film itself was more of a campy comedy, than a genuine thriller. it had a lanky, pot-bellied Amitabh trying to play a gangster opposite the svelte Zeenat. it had cheesy acting, numerous plot holes and was at best a mediocre film, largely redeemed by its songs. i really dont know why Farhan has elected to remake such crap, but all the best to him anyway.

I am looking forward to Don and am sure it will be a hit like Farhans' other films. And Shah Rukh will definitely do justice to the role.Amithab was good in his time and SKK is "KINGKHAN".All the best.

Reashing original Don
by venkat iyer on Oct 18, 2006 10:36 AM  | Hide replies

I think it's absolutley ridiculous to reash the original version of Don.

It's sad but that's what you can expect from medicore film makers like Farhan. Had this been done by someone else Javed Akthar would have been the first to criticise the attempt.

Im sure the film is going to be a wash out from the opening show itself.

Remakes per se have reached its boiling point
But I felt Don was different and the way it would be handled, I hope is different.

Don for all its merits was not a classic, like say a Sholay.
And I am sure Farhan would have seen some spark in it to remake it.
It may not be a frame 2 frame remake.

And I doubt what made someone comment that Farhan is mediocre.

Dil chahta hai was path breaking, was amazingly refreshing, lakshya was different and defi watchable.

Wow! what an insightful critique! There is no doubting Farhan's talent. My only bane is that this is a remake, but having seen Lakhsya/DCH and liking *both* of them immensely (dudes, the only hindi DVD I have is of Lakshya), I am all excited about Don. The music is fantabulous IMHO, and I am sure the movie will be very good. THe only problem with Lakshya was that the protagonist was from an upper middle class/high class family - I guess the hardcore masses cant relate to such characters and the film didnt do as well as it should have! which is also the case with DCH, did not do as well as it should have at the BO.

How can u say Farhan an "medicore" filmmaker, probably u do not have much knowledge abt Hindi films. Both his earliear films receievd good response from the BO as well as the critics(which rarely happens today).
And anyways, the BO collections of DON will reveal the rest to U.
All exiceted for DON

Remake of Don
by Shankar Srinivasan on Oct 17, 2006 06:34 PM

For those who have seen the earlier Don, this film is of least interest.

Let Shah Rukh Khan be Shah Rukh Khan. He is nowhere near Amitabh Bachchan.

If at all this film is a hit, it would be because it will be seen by a generation who have not seen the earlier version.
